Trochaic meter is one of my favorites. I love the strong downbeat at beginning. It adds drama. Since it is backwards to iambic, it can be a challenge to switch the mindset.
You did a great job with the meter. The topic was fitting for this meter as well. You certainly deserved the win.

Wow. I certainly didn't expect this. So very kind! This was fun to write. I love a meter challenge. The way I kept this meter correct was to constantly hum the McDonalds commercial song..."hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, special orders don't upset us". lol I thank you for all those stars and for you taking the time to read and review this piece. Very much appreciated! Lynda

Thanks, Omar, for this awesome review and giant sixer! This was a very difficult challenge. This very specific meter just would not settle into my brain until I created a little song in my head to keep me in line. It goes with... "hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, special orders don't upset us..." (Burger King) HAHA! I thank you for your time and generous rating and I'm glad you liked this. Much appreciated!! Lynda

Such a heartbreaking presentation for this contest... yet the survival 'beat' of the meter really comes through! ;) Thanx for sharing and best of luck to you at the polls! ;)

Your entry was joyfully easy to read. It carried a nice flow and tune. The concept was not very heavy and it's something to share. Thank you for posting and I'm glad that you received so many votes. I feel that you've grasped the Trochaic meter style well.

This is wonderful! Fine attention to detail in meter and rhyme. Maybe a little heavy on the use of gerunds (the trochee's friend!), but that fact takes very little away from the poem's impact. The final couplet, with it's internal rhymes, is such a powerful way to end this. This is a winner, poet!

Hi, T.E. First, thank you so much for taking the time to read and review this piece. To be honest, I had never heard of trochaic meter so I looked it up. Tonight I just looked up 'gerunds' and 'trochee'. You are correct on both counts. I read Poe's 'Raven' over and over and over until the meter sunk in. This entry has been a deep dive into my learning curve! I appreciate all those stars and these lovely comments. Have a great new year and welcome to Fanstory. Thanks again!

Very powerful poem. I love the strength and resilience of this character. You handled the rhythm and meter deftly. Feels like I could read this to a metronome. Well done!

Wow! Thank you so much, Dolly, for this awesome review and big sixer. I liked that you referenced a metronome. I had to create a little melody in my head to keep this meter straight! I appreciate this rating and lovely comments. Happy New Year and welcome to Fanstory! Thanks again.

This is a well presented entry for the contest. I think it is well written and the picture accompanies it well. I like the positive outcome included with the hurt.

I agree, this is a difficult challenge. Your poem meets and exceeds the requirements with its beautiful lilting meter and abundant rhymes. I am sure this will do well in the contest. I wish you many votes.

A very well-written poem written in Trochaic meter about love relationships that not always end up well and the once lovers become the worlds biggest rivals.

I enjoyed your poem. I love the way it rolls closely with the rhyme and rhythm. It sounds even better when to read it aloud. The words simply roll easily off the tongue. I'm not knowledgeable about different forms of poetry, so just know it sounds great!
