I am out of six stars, unfortunately; this deserves one. I have not had the pleasure of reading your works until just now. This was a wonderful write with just the right tone and descriptors. Enjoyable and filled with a basic truism of a good deed is not always what it's meant to be. I will be reading more of your postings. Thanks for pointing me in this direction.
Blessings,
brigitte

It is quite ironic that good intentions are so often misunderstood in this day and age, when motives are suspect. You have written the story well. It was enjoyable.

Very nicely composed short story. I can see the little old lady and feel the generosity of your heart. One tiny little thing -- I have this thing about the word "got," as in "There's got to ..." I much prefer "There has to ..." But that's just me. ð???

This work has reached the exceptional level

No good deed goes unpunished. Or so I am told. A word of advice, wait to be asked. One night while waiting for my wife to pick me up, I noticed an elderly woman trying to cross the street against traffic. Several times she ventured out from the curb only to be forced back. After several minutes of trying she managed to cross the street, I then watched her go to the corner across the street which had a traffic light that she could have used to safely cross the street many minutes ago.

Lance,
I loved the twist at the end.
You can tell you are a poet. If you read your first paragraph out loud the sentences all have the same cadence. It might be nice to shake them up to something more conversational/easier to read.
Thanks for sharing!

This is a good example of the non-communication that can make good intentions go awry. Personally, if I need help I ask for it directly, and only act the same way towards others. If I were her, I would have hit him over the head with my umbrella for unwanted interference.

Ha ha ha I didn't think when I first started reading this story that it would end so funny. Great job on writing good visual words that helped the story to progress nicely.

HEADS UP I reviewed this story a few days ago--have you inadvertently reposted the same content under a different title? If so, that's not supposed to happen--not sure how it impacts the contest.

Hi. I just looked through all 39 reviews and this is your first review. Perhaps you started to read this and intended to review it but didn't complete one. It was also off the review list for about a week. I just promoted it again today. So I don't see any problem. Thanks for your review.

I realize this is my only review registered under this title. Perhaps it's as you say; I recall entering comments--perhaps I was interrupted or perhaps the save didn't register--in any event, you would have figured it out by now if you'd posted it under two separate titles. Cheers. LIZ

This story is perfect for this contest. The assumptions that we make are laughable at times. We think we know and we are so wrong. LOL. This is great and you did receive first place. Congratulations!
