This is such a wonderful, inspiring story. You did an excellent job of describing your handicap and your aspirations. Your actions also showed your determination to succeed in spite of your handicaps. This should be inspirational for all. It was excellent that you included the quote from Helen Keller. She was certainly an inspiration. I'm glad you persevered until you were accepted for training as an x-ray technician and had a long career in your field. Congratulations. judi

I suggest you change accomplished to overcame. Also write the sentence about writing a letter like this: In my letter, I didn't mention......

Inspiring story.

My previous review is not adequate. You raised so many issues that it would take a book to cover them all. I believe that you achieved your goal in large part because you believed in yourself. You knew you could do the job.

I got a job teaching in a community college after hundreds of rejections. In some cases there were hundreds of people after the same job. I am considering writing about how I got that job.

I taught writing and literature, but never took a course in creative writing. Now I am trying to learn how to write a short stories that are unforgettable. Damn! that's a steep hill to climb. I will work for months on a short story, sometimes very short story, that people will find unforgettable in a positive way. But just how is one to know when to say that it can't be done? Forget about it. But then you have inspired me to keep trying.

I have a few short stories and a poem ensconced in fanstory. If you read any of them, I hope you will find them as thought provoking as your article.

A well written piece and great source of inspiration to all whom are open to understanding. Life is not easy and the obstacles are everywhere. Is it fair, no, perhaps there is no such thing, but you will always fail when you don't try.

A great post, and very realistic. No sugarcoating here.

A lovely story about a person (you) who would not let others dictate their abilities or future. I enjoy stories like this and am often in awe of what people achieve against obstacles. Congratulations! Thanks for sharing and good luck to you.

This is a very heart warming story which I thoroughly enjoyed reading, being disabled myself I relate to it when people find my differences difficult.
There were one or two editing errors, the beginning of most sentences there was an indented space which wasn't consistent, just a little tweak is all that's needed here.
"I will review your applicant (application) with the doctors and let you know." Just a minor spelling error there.
My favourite part was:
We are all the same. Our afflictions are different, but to reach our achievements, we need to battle with the barriers before they take control of us.
Thank you for writing this, if this is a biographical piece of work I commend your bravery for putting this out there. It is inspiring.
Never give up on your dreams.

I'm am so glad you put that note beneath your story. I'm also glad you lived by those words of Hellen Keller and refused to give up. Life can throw us some pretty severe curves at time and all of us could accomplish more if we refused to give up. It is great story. Good luck with the contest.

This is an exremely poignant true story that addresses the overcoming of a severe physical handicap by sheer willpower and motivation. It is well-written, and the reader can clearly feel the see-saw effect of frustration and desire. I am very glad things worked out so well for you in the end.

Hi TPA,

I thoroughly enjoyed your story. As I read it, I didn't really know it was a personal experience. It was so very well written that it drew me in and held my attention throughout. When I got to the end, I realized it was a true story, and that enriched it even more. What a fighter you are. I know your mother is proud of you. I am, too!

Best of luck in the contest,
Rhonda

Your story has honestly brought me to slight tears. It really reminded me of my own personal story. I recently got diagnosed with Bipolar 1, and it has been a really hard realization for me. This story reminded me that things are going to be hard but continuing to try is most important. And the results of what you want happening is all that is important.
