I don't know how I miss this. It's wonderful and so interesting. Parts I thought were funny. I never did well with writing, and am still awful at prose. It's so good you stuck with it and have accomplished so much. I was looking to pay forward on reviewing those pieces lacking one review to reach recognized or all time best. I had a hard time finding one of yours that didn't have oodles of reviews!

Great story! It is interesting that you started out hating writing and evolved into a writer as you began to discover you actually had a talent for it. Great story and best of luck with that book--I've had some similar aspirations, been working on one on and off since 2008. LOL!! Sounds like yours will become a reality!

I love those! I thought nothing went into or came out of Slippery Rock but jocks. (Edinboro grad here) i think some of us are naturals. I think journalism and writing classes make us robots.go for the book. Readers who appreciate real writers will buy it. Mine, A Word's Worth, on Amazon won't make the NYT best seller list, but those who love it, really love it. I'll be looking for yours

Nicely told. Its interesting that so many journalists turn to creative writing. Perhaps after telling so many other people's stories, they realize it's time to tell their own! Good luck with writing a novel and good luck in the contest.

I enjoyed reading of how you progressed in writing. I also had difficulty in school, and did not learn until college that I loved writing. One thing, I did not get to college until later in life.
You have much more experience than I, but there is one thing that in my opinion could read a little better. The over use of "I at the beginning of so many sentences. " While it is a little difficult to write about yourself and not use "I" Example: "My talents do not lie in recording a hit song, or winning an Oscar or even a masterpiece painting"
Just a thought! Still enjoyed your history and story.
