Amen! (No offense to Ron Reagan, the avowed atheist who wants to keep religion out of politics!) You've written perfect iambic tetrameter here, except for the brilliant second line. You've included a soft, initial caesura between "for" and "Republicans, almost as if you had to pause ever so slightly to even type the word "Republicans." That's just terrific! Congratulations on your third-place finish.

Thank you, Tom, for the great comments on my political poem. Rod

Good job on this poem. It isn't easy to write about our government and the present situations. I wish neither party had to be at each other's throats constantly. It would be nice if everyone could play nice in the sandbox and decide what's best for our country. Good job and good luck with the contest!

Thank you for your clear and well written poem on this topic. As always, it should be the people who are served humbly by their representatives, not the other way around. Good wishes for the contest.

You accomplished fulfilling the contest rules very well. Gave an outline of what the parties are about and explaining about which way the country should go. Well done. Best of luck in the contest.:)

Thank you for your encouraging review of my political poem.

I think perhaps if the vitriol and division remain for whatever the reason, America cannot recover, it's an application to the world, not just America, we don't live in isolation and pride, people are the same wherever we are, nations rise and fall historically. Beautifully written my friend, blessings Roy

Your poem certainly gives some good suggestions for making America great again. I don't recall even during the Vietnam War people being at such odds. I was the program director at our college coffee house and we invited conservative politicians, preachers and poets (well, OK, few poets were conservative) to speak and we respectfully listened and respectfully asked questions. I don't think that's happening anywhere today. Free speech is being shut down.

You bring up a very good point. Vietnam caused great divisiveness in our nation, mostly between the generations. Now it?s two political parties that cause all the commotion. Many thanks for your comments on my poem.

This is an interesting Free verse. I have read and reread the the prompt and requirements. They are also shown at the bottom of this post. With that in mind. I feel the first half violates that requirement with passive aggressive statement. There is nothing 'nice' in it.
It's hard to feel much sympathy
for Republicans--the GOP. - Nothing nice here.
A brand new leader's what they need,
one all can trust, a Special Breed. This by definition insults whomever their current leader is. Again nothing nice.
The second stanza is nothing like the first. Which screams that the writer is biased and cannot stop.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on the first two stanzas of my poem. I think ?nice? is a very ambiguous term. I merely am trying to describe what NEEDS to be done in Washington. Am I biased? I tried not to be.

I like your perspective on the future for America - "where principles prevail, abound." It's obvious you aren't a trump supporter (me neither). Regaining some integrity is paramount.

Thank you, Lisa, for sharing my political poem. One reviewer accused me of being too biased, but I tried to make my American Dream clear to all.
-
That reviewer was probably a one-eyed republican, still unable to see reality. I think your American Dream was very sound in its desire for the future.
Comment from Dolly'sPoems
I liked your positivity here but I wouldn't hold out much hope for America under the Democratic government as they will ensure poor people will remain poor with no chance of promotion, but I hope the future is bright for you, love Dolly x

You did pretty well, considering "the highest number of rules I've ever seen in any contest." Holy cow, didn't it kill you to be so nice? Politics are not nice, so this was a real challenge.
Best of luck in the contest.

Indeed this contest had a high number of rules. I hope my poem qualifies. Many thanks for your comments and review.
