Another fascinating read...
I understand hunting for food, but not for sport.
(Years ago I owned a house by a huge reservoir--when deer hunting season came the state offered a limited number of permits to hunt deer on the surrounding land. The permits were granted by "lottery."--I used to buy a hunting license and pray for a permit. When I "won"--which was often--I took tha permit and went hunting--shooting deer...with a camera!)
I found myself contemplating the (implied or was it me?) play on words in your final line.
Hopeful that the deer herd---HEARD! (Thus escaping with their lives.)
Your trademark change in shade of your lines is always a delight!

I love the 'dying green' commingling with the autumn colours, it suggests resignation of what is about to unfold.
The words 'Innocent victims' indicates to me that the poet disapproves of the hunter's intention.
The colour of the text perfectly complements the colours in the striking artwork.
I just loved it.
