Congratulations on your win. I really appreciate how you bared your soul to write this poem.
I have to admit it took guts and you really spilled yours here. You deserve a round of applause for overcoming your fear as well as winning the contest.
Best of luck always,
Marie

This us so tragic and explains how dramatic it is to lose someone close at a young age and how it can destroy someone's life. Humans have a survival mechanism and it takes many forms and this is just one of them. Understanding it is the key to combatting it, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Thank you for reading my poem, it means a lot to me. :)
Comment from C. Gale Burnett
Strengths:
What I enjoyed when reading your poem was finding answers to the questions of what and why? There was a smooth flow of events throughout each stanza (how OCD started with you, how it affected you, how you, for the most part, overcame it). Excellent expression, painting vivid images in my mind.
Weakness:
As I have to do often, you may want to work on the rhythm of the poem. Extra words in one line sometimes sound forced, disrupting the prior and following lines. Does that make sense?
You did really good, and I certainly enjoyed this poem.

Thank you, I appreciate hearing the good and the bad because it helps me improve as a writer. Thanks for taking the time to read my poem. :)

Oh, nothing at all was bad! Others, more experienced than I, would likely say it was perfect. All was just my humble opinion. You did good :)

This poem gave me the shivers because I can truly visualize your panic when you thought your mother was going to die next. I can SEE you locking and relocking doors, lining up shoes and just touching things. I applaud your use of ABCB rhyming and not ABAB in these quatrains. Rod

Many of us suffer mildly from this sort of thing as children. You mustn't tread on the cracks between the paving stone if you want to keep the bears away. But it can become serious if taken too far, or really believed that certain activity unconnected with a result can forestall disaster or cause it.
Mild superstition is fair enough but when it becomes obsessive it is a problem.

I've overcome ADHD add I've had it my entire life but didn't realize it until a couple yards ago. I decided to manage it without medication bc I'd grown somewhat used to the hyper focus that would bring out my creativity. It was like being on drugs almost!!! Thank you for sharing your poem and good luck in the contest;-)

Thank you for reading my poem and for sharing your story as well. I wish I could say that OCD was manageable for me, but it wasn't....it just made me feel scared. Thanks again for the review.

I can imagine how dreadful that is! Your poem told a good story about your plite. Easy to follow and interesting to read. It's a good thing your mom saw what was happening.
Blessed Be...Good Luck

Poet,
Congratulations on overcoming OCD - Amazing ending and way of writing your success! "O.C.D is the illness that I have outrun."
This is a perfectly written story in a poem you have written for the writing prompt. I'm sorry you lost your father at such a young. age.
Well, best of luck in the contest. This is a special poem.

Hi Boogienights.
This is a well expressed poem describing the prison of OCD. It controls lives and makes many things seem unnatural. You wrote this well and your style is well written.
