This flash fiction fit all the requirements perfectly. It also made me nostalgic for a time when the whole family watched together, sharing a memory of the event. With the reference the Beatles and the Vietnam War, you pegged this decade perfectly. Best wishes in the contest!

It was a good family gathering. I miss these good old days. Now, my children are grown up. They are away from me and liven different states. We supposed to get together once a year. Because of the pandemic, no-one is allowed to travel.

I enjoy your story. Well written.

Thanks for sharing

I wish I still had a six starv rating to give this Flash from the Past. You captured several elements of the 1960s in just 101 words. I loved the last line. Very nice job. Good luck in the contest.

This flash fiction story, Family Night in the 60s, has the required word count and puts the mention of the Vietnam War in which was also sometimes a shared family experience.

Yes, this conversation is a realistic one - and sad too. Your story has been well thought through and planned, mingling the joy of the Beatles and their music with the tragedy of what was soon to unfold in Viet Nam. Well written.

I remember that night that the Beatles debuted on the Ed Sullivan show. I think the entire world must have watched it. I was just a tad young at the time. Good luck with the contest!

The magic on this wrote is the juxtaposition between carefree joy and the end of innocence. I well recall the Beatles riotous success on Ed Sullivan. Equally clear was my older brother's post physical 1A status...

Vietnam would soon overtake every family night...

This is such a microcosm of the unknown nightmare taking seed in so many homes...

God Bless our heroes!

That was a nice short story. Great work.

Family quality time has changed plenty since then. Maybe, I'm a child of the 70's and still single... But technology seems to have changed life.

Good luck in the contest :)

Thank you for a creatively written reminder of the sixties. My uncle would come to our house for dinner on Sundays. He would stay through the Ed Sullivan Show. I recall the shock wave the Beatles' long hair caused. This is a great entry for the contest. Best wishes.

An interesting perspective that highlights a number of features of life in the 60's, and how along with cultural icons like the Beatles, and films, such as - From Russia with Love, there were serious issues as well- the Vietnam War, being one such event. This flash fiction, creates a picture of the 60's very effectively. Nice job.
