Great job. I believe this is a fine piece. It dazzles in a tight knit family culture that most would envy. It is also warm with happiness all around. The ending is unexpected with a sad turn. Bravo! Nicely told!

I would consider single spacing and not double spacing because it makes it too difficult to follow!

There are many of us here who have very similar memories. I was a teen in the sixties and watched male friends head for Nam and elsewhere. Those were turbulent times, but also some of my best memories come from those years. Excellent closing line. Great contest entry.
