This fifty-word story, He Said, She Said, has the required word count and creates a situation where the two pets are separated. Frog needs to curb his language.

He's a mean old bullfrog with an attitude because he was nibbling at his toes...He was a bit hard on her though. LOL

I guess I'm a little per"plexed" on this one. If they were divided by plexiglass, how did they interact? Apparently "she" speaks English, while "he" does not. By saying "Croak," rather than "Ribbit," is he telling her to die? I hope you can see my confusion. Fifty words is a challenge.

Sorry, you didn't care for this silly bit of a story. It's tough to get a decent story out of 50 words...You can talk through plexiglass just like window glass...Yes, he was a mean old bullfrog who got his toes bit by Mrs. Turtle...he told her to croak. LOL It's a fairy tale. Have a great day!

I guess I was wondering how she bit his toes through the plexiglass. I'm probably just too analytical for fairy tales. I guess he was a mean old bullfrog indeed. Perhaps I should have his legs for supper -- sans bit-off toes. :-)

There you go...I knew you could go there, Susan... They have the plexiglass because Mrs. Turtle bit the toes...it wasn't there before. I do like the idea of the legs for dinner. lol
reply by Susan Newell on 05-Jun-2021
Aah. A few more words and we would have known that the plexiglass was a disciplinary action. I was too dense to read between the lines.

Dear Mystery Animal Lover,

Hmmm... Sounds like those two are gonna have to work this out over a bit of time. You know, you just don't get over a thing like bitten toes right away. That's a whole encroachment of personal space and then the actual pain and perhaps some PTSD and then some underlying trust issues... Man, yeah. It's sooooo much more than just a nip, you know?

And, btw, I hope by 'croak' - you don't mean CROAKED - like right on out of this WORLD! That would truly be a tragedy. Because THEN we'd have to deal with all the guilt and its aftermath for poor Mrs.Turtle!!! All the counseling sessions and drugs and who knows WHAT ALL, right?

Wow. In just fifty words you have presented such a horrible drama! I will be up all night worrying about what's gonna happen to these precious critters. Please let me know what happens NEXT!!!!!

hehehe Thanks for the fun. Good luck!

Okay, I am really tied up with some undercover work and can't be distracted by Henry tossing his vile words around...so I take it back even though Mrs Turtle did nibble pretty hard on his toes. Horrible drama... you must have me confused with another mystery writer. I couldn't possibly keep you up all night worrying, now could I?

I'm going to need counseling sessions before this over with. lol

A fun little story. I can see the little girl giving the frog a lecture. This story makes a parent think about the moments they have with their own little ones.

A cute story told from beginning to end in only (and exactly) fifty words. I like the cute picture as well. It enhances your story nicely. Good luck with the contest.

Thank you so much Jen... It's difficult to get a story in so few words, especially when I am always accused of being wordy. LOL Thanks for the review. have a great day!

Lol. So when Henry said, "Croak," was he telling Mrs. Turtle to croak? I wonder how big a vocabulary a toad could have. But Suzie apparently speaks "toad" and knows what he meant. Best wishes in the contest!

Yes, indirectly he was telling her to croak in frog fashion I guess. What more can I do with 50 words...I am a wordy person.... Have a great day and thank you for the kind review.

Okay, Henry is the frog and can only say croak, but then how does the turtle apologize for biting Henry's toes? Maybe I'm looking at these to hard. This is classified as General fiction so, I get it not supposed to be humor.

Anyway, I wish you luck in the contest.

Okay, lancelot...It's too hot to discuss a silly 50-word story suited for five-year-olds...so I changed it to humor, and yes, you are studying it too hard. LOL, thanks for giving me a hard time...and for wishing me luck. Have a great day!

Well done. In fifty words you've admirably characterized with clarity male/female dynamics and interactions. Your short work proved a profound example.

This is totally creative and humorous. I like the animation of Henry the frog and Mrs. Turtle. In fifty words, you managed an introduction, dialogue, and surprise ending. Well done. Best wishes in the contest.
