Powerful sonnet with breathtaking lines, perfect rhyme and the all important iambic pentameter. More importantly, you've opened the curtain on the many faces of mental illness. Nothing at all to be ashamed of, and yet, still in this century so many do not seek help for fear of ridicule or loss of job! It always struck me as ironic that weather related disorders are abbreviated S.A.D.--Seasonal Affective Disorder. Really enjoyed your writing. I think I'm about to fan you! (Fair warning!)--

    Hi Karenina,

Oh, so good to hear from you! I am so pleased you like my sonnet. Thank you for an awesome review and wonderful thoughts. Yes, mental issues affect us all if we?re honest (in some form or severity), I think. Shouldn?t be such a stigma anymore. You are so right about pulling back the curtain on mental illness as it has a broad spectrum of disorders that encompasses about everyone!

So great to hear from you!

Thanks again, Karenina! I will poke around in your portfolio as well. My son's wedding was today, so have been offline for a bit but will get back on FanStory again in the next few days. Maybe later tonight if I don't fall asleep first.

It's uniquely euphoric to be able to go out and do things in the world again, isn't it? Here's hoping we keep going in the right direction!--Karenina

Yes, you nailed it! Uniquely euphoric. Perfect. Are you worried about the Delta variant from India, showing up on our shores now? All of us are positively giddy about resuming normalcy now but is it too soon, or will it always be something lurking around the corner to shove us back into a mask mandated lockdown? In one breath the WHO says to be safe, wear a mask in case the India variant gets a stronghold, then the CDC says, no mask needed :-( Guessing they really don?t know.
reply by karenina on 28-Jun-2021
I am worried. I have read esteemed scientists postulating the Delta variant may overpower our vaccines. Others have said it is the unvaccinated that will suffer, as this variant spreads much more easily...

I envision a clamor to develop boosters as more variants emerge.

    Hard not to be wary!

Yes, I am worried as well. Boosters are in the works - I can feel the gears turning as we speak.

    Stay well, Karenina!

Senyai,

Virtual six-star rating. (sorry, I'm all out)

You have done an exceptional job in the penning of this poem. A powerful poem about an illness that affects so many. My brother is bipolar, and he suffers it appears in the wintertime. One must have that love and support system in place to help them go through. So often, family members refuse to accept this illness as if it doesn't exist. Some members in my family refused to accept that he has this illness,

You are a very talented poet. This poem has excellent rhyming throughout with a very smooth flow. Your very last lines--- compelling!
"I best arise as Lazarus unearthed!
Reclaim my days, bestowed on me from birth!"

Thanks for sharing,

May God continue to bless and keep you in His loving care
Have a wonderful day.

Portia

    Hi Portia,

You are so kind in your beautiful thoughts and review. Yes, mental disorders and issues cover such a broad spectrum and severity that if we?re honest, almost everyone of us can claim it. My thoughts and prayers are with your brother as he has to deal with a very tricky illness to treat. But we?ve come a long way in diagnosing and treatments.

Our family genetics has depression running through it in varying degrees. So that has to be dealt with always.

    I loved hearing from you!

Bless you, my talented friend :-)

Dear poet,

What an excellent sonnet! Full of stunning imagery, musical, brilliantly painting what power the weather has over one's mood and overall outlook. Poignant piece. Beautiful to finish with rebirth through the Lazarus syndrome!

Lovely notes as well
Well done

This was a very beautiful and well-written poem. I liked your word choices. There were several lines I liked but below proved my favorite. I also loved your image. Great choice.

I best arise as Lazarus unearthed! [I really love this line.]

The Winds of Catatonia

Nice Shakespearean sonnet.

I understand what's like to have a mental illness, I am bipolar. I have struggled with it throughout my life but now I take medication and live a normal life.

Thank you for such an honest and endearing review and comments. Yes, people don?t realize how other people struggle and love and acceptance are always the way. Mental issues are so common that we should be aware of and not pass judgement. It touches us all, if we are honest.

Much love to you, Gypsy. Your perspective nature is your own and embrace it lovingly. There is only one of you :-)

It is perfectly okay to lie in state for a time as your body, mind and mood repair themselves. When the time is right and proper, one must elevate themselves to rejoin the fight the race and resume the place, their rightful place among the populace. Very good write. I like.

This sounds like a person deciding it is time to stop letting depression or other life problems sap him/her of energy to live life to the fullest.
Good luck in the contest.
