I found this poem adorable! I love the name Penny Penelope Applebee for starters and then when each stanza started with the name it just brought the whole poem together. Good luck with the contest.

I loved reading this poem-story. The excitement of the sidewalk sale, eating ice cream, and her getting her necklace! made for a quaint, sweet story and an excellent poem. I was not aware this is a series.

Aww! This is a delightful children's story poem! And it employs anaphora of the repeated first line to add a musical quality connecting all the stanza and it gives us an admirable attitude of being content with what she had even when she couldn't afford the necklace. In the end she got it but her gratitude was to her parents. I hope you do well in the contest!

This is a great children's story and I can see you put a lot of work into ensuring the lines rhyme and maintaining a coherent childlike story. The thing that may, I stress only may, be an issue is the length of the lines and stanzas for the children this seems to be aimed at.

But it may not.
