I have answered my phone, "Hernando Police Department" many times. They hang up right away. I liked this and while I know everyone has to make a living, there are just too many scams out there to be too nice. Good story.

I know, and I've done it. But nowadays... It's different. You're right -- the scams are horrid. I wish I had the nerve to answer with 'PD'! lol
My father-in-law used to answer (every) call with:
Joe's Mortuary. You stab 'em, we slab 'em.
He was funny and a wee bit STRANGE! lol

Very clever trick and fun to read. This must be more fun in actual communication. Telemarketers really annoyed sometime, but this is how their job is. They should just make some limitations on follow up and privacy. However its fun to read. I enjoyed reading this conversation. thank you for sharing.

You are absolutely right. I would love to do something like this to a telemarketer. I have said things that made them want to hang up, but nothing as creative as this. This dialogue is humorous and realistic. The underlying story was captivating. Best wishes in the contest.

I"m not sure which I 'prefer'.... The telemarketers who are actually living people just trying to make a living, or those horrid machines. Wait... I do know. People are always over machines. :)

But I'm glad to see your posts. Sorry I haven't been on much. My family's in the process of moving since the landlord of our house is selling it and we had some garbage with the property manger. Ugh. It's kinda stressful. But your post made my day. :) I hope you win.

Hey! My uncle (also from Brooklyn) corrected me. Evidently, that's a New Jersey accent. (And who knows... It may be a mish-mash of a whole bunch of places! lol)
Moving is a pain! We've lived here for 29 years, come October. I dread the day we move. My boys keep threatening to build us a new house and that'd be nice... Except for the moving part! lol. We'll see how that goes. I won't worry about the moving until I see them break ground for the project. And that's not even in the plans yet.

Nah... One lives here in Brownwood, one in Alabama. I think that would put s somewhere in... MIssissippi? Yikes! No thank you. lol
They're actually 'going to' build on or property while we live here, then tear down most of the 'old' house, leaving the kitchen and front 2 rooms as a workshop or guest house.

What encouragement you are, Doc! Thank you. Unfortunately, I have a cheapo-depo mic sitting in my kitchen. lol. I do offer audios of my books to folks who purchase the print or ebook copy but make it clear that it is NOT professionally recorded. Part of the time, you can even hear my dog walking through the room -- click, click, click - or a cat meowing. lol
But it is great fun and I enjoy it.
In my children's ministry role, I"m a puppeteer and ventriloquist, which I NEVER expected to be able to say. Ah, the paths God leads us to stroll along! :)

I did the telemarketing gig, too, and it was not fun at ALL. But foul language? Yikes! That's totally not cool.
My little sister says something like, "Oh, thank Heavens that you called! I havne't talked to a grown up in so many days and Barney (or whatever irritating cartoon she can think of) is my lover in my dreams now!" They usually hang up on her! lol.
