The trouble is the birds just get used to these scarecrows because they don't move! In France they have some that move now! Ha ha ha, a fun rite Melissa, love Dolly x

This is very clever with the double meaning of thieves and a murder of crows. I have known of that grouping of crows for a long time but, it always makes me smile when I see it being used creatively. I like the picture of the scarecrow with the crows sitting on it...they are not scared at all! This is an excellent piece to demonstrate that a 5-7-5 poem can still say a lot. Thank you for posting today.
Have a great afternoon,
Jesse

This is a beautiful poem. Yo used the double meaning of murder here, a group of crows and the murder of the scare crow. You did a good job.

Exceptionally done.

This 5-7-5, Slow Demise, has the right set up and find the stoic protector of the fieldsbeing slowly syphoned of its vey essense which makes one think, "Hay!"

This is a fine double meaning joke in 5-7-5 form. How about sponsoring a 5-7-5 contest in which the last line had to be the collective?

A pride of lions
Covey of partridge
School of porpoises
A gaggle of geese
etc.

The indefinite article is optional.

I love your idea about the contest and will definitely put one out there whenever I can think up how to title it. Thank you, Jim.

Your poem made me smile. I've always liked crows because they're so clever and vocal and quick to comment when they see me in the garden.
The delightful picture soften the words. You've told a whole story in few words. Nice job.

OK Melissa, the scarecrow is smiling, but I don't think he is a very happy watchman as he is getting seriously picked on. LOL

An excellent entry for this contest!

Mark

P.S. Consider adding some punctuation doohickey after your second line.

This poem paints the stark reality of farm life, as well as life in general. A wonderful allegory of our nation at present. Methinks our national watchmen are being dismantled. Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the upcoming contest,
Sal XOs...

I like your amiable watchman. There is a nice contrast between the scarecrow and the murderous crows. Seems like the scarecrow is a little too amiable though. He's not doing his job.
This is a delightful post. Puts me in the mood for the fall.
