My mother was a painter and when I was a teen she painted three strelitzias on a black canvas.. never forgot how stunning these exotic flowers are.

Glad to have introduced them to you!

They are originally from South Africa and the plant loves the sun.. once cut they can stay alive for even 10 days ..

Beware though: I read they are toxic for animals ..so if you have pets best just to enjoy them in pics.

my mother was also a painter...she went to the Chicago Art Institute...passed with the highest honors...and dropped it all to get married and have 5 kids...crazy...but she painted every chase she could...

It?s not an easy choice to make between love and one?s passion ..

5 kids would have kept your mother very busy , glad to hear she still painted when she had the chance.

I can see you are very proud of your mother?s artistic achievements.. I can understand. ( smile)

My mother only had me but ran her own travel business with my father.. when she retired she had time to do her art.

She was self taught, she read lots of books especially when she started doing sculpture too.

When the contest is over I will send you a few pics ,I used as artwork in my entries.

Oh I love these flowers! They look amazing, so exotic and colourful. You've captured their description well, skilfully combing rhyme. The black background was a good choice to enhance the colours of the flower.

I love using black backgrounds in many of my artwork , it enhances bright colours like you pointed out.

And this exotic flower has such stunning hues.

Syllables are all in check and the rhyme scheme clever.

Strelitzia seems
a bird in flight,(add space) wings so bright
mesmerizing sight
