I am so sorry I missed this beautiful story of Simon, the Cyrenian. The way you weave it is so beautiful and full of meanings. Sometimes, we are also called to bear the cross. But let us pray for those millions around the world who are bearing the heavy cross of persecution now. Thanks for sharing this beautiful story, Kit.

Thank you very much, dear Kit, for this outstanding review, the six stars and your meaningful comments. I'm so happy that you enjoyed the story.
Yes, we are sometimes called to carry a heavy cross, and we must never forget those for whom persecution is a daily struggle, as it looms large, causing grief, pain or tremendous burdens. For "the joy set before him" Jesus "endured the cross," "scorning its shame," and "sat down at the right hand of the throne of God," where He is now interceding not only for us, but for all our persecuted brethren. (from Hebrews 12:2 NIV) We must always remember to pray for them. He is our example and Advocate, yet we are all one body in Christ, and we can't imagine sometimes, what they are going through. But we trust that He hears our prayers. Blessings, Mary Kay

Sorry to have missed this. I wasn't alerted. Please accept my virtual six. I see this is a book and that there are more chapters coming. :))

Simon of Cyrene is a key player in the redemption story, depicted as the one bearing his own measure of sin and need for a Savior. Beautifully penned and illustrated with an accompanying video by Sandi Patti.

One nit: "I stood rooted to my spot, in disbelief.["] Add closing quotation marks.

Sending you my best today, and love and blessings always,
Sal XOs...

Dearest Sally, thank you so much for reading and reviewing this story, including your virtual six and all of your kind and thoughtful remarks. Most likely the reason you weren?t alerted was because it was originally a contest (which is now over).
My compliments for finding my error! Yours is the 24th review, besides my careful scrutiny ... thank you very much!
This book is a mixture of poetry and prose. If you have a chance, please check out the worship video I added to chapter 3 -- you have already reviewed it, but I added the video later, and I think you'll enjoy it.

My love to you always, and prayers for you and your family,
    Mary Kay xoxo

Hi again, Sally! I checked out the story, where the quotation marks are ... Simon continues speaking, so a closing quote is not required there.
In the following paragraph, he quotes a Roman centurion (double quotes), but it's still Simon, telling the story.
Many thanks, my dear friend, for everything
    xoxo

A heartfelt rendition of the conviction, torture and crucifixion of Jesus.
Very interesting information on Simon, many things i did not know about him. Thought it was also very interesting that Penelope would use Italian terms of endearment, Carissimo Nono.
Although you created the dialogue, I think it might have been very similar to what you wrote. And the gathered crowd would have been like that, trying to see and understand.
The cruelty of the crucifixion can not be overstated, ever.
Good work,
irish

Thank you very much, Irish, for your lovely review, the five stars and your thoughtful comments. You're actually the only person who noticed Penelope's Italian terms of endearment, towards her grandfather.
Yes, we owe an eternal debt of love and gratitude for Our Savior's sacrifice on the Cross, and all that went with it. I look forward to meeting Him, face to face, and hope that by His grace, I will live a life worthy of His calling. Meanwhile, I am a work in progress!
I am very touched by your beautiful review.
    May God bless you.

This is a wonderful blend of fact and unsupported fact (I would be very loath to call it fiction). I think the most heartening part is how Jesus reassured Simon that his family were well.

Thank you so much, Katherine, for reviewing all four chapters I promoted with my book balloon; you're the only one, so far, who did. I appreciate that so much. I'm really blessed that you enjoyed this story, which I loved writing. Yes, I think that on the Road to Calvary, Jesus would have been able to sense the concerns Simon had, as he did with others he met, in the course of His ministry; and He knew things only God could know. This led some individuals to put their faith in Him. God bless you, my friend Katherine.

Thank you, Liz, for this great review of my story. I really appreciate the two revisions you offered. I was actually so convinced that my spellings were correct, that I had to look them up, and it turns out that you are absolutely right, on both. I didn't find anything about "alright" being all right in the U.K. (not in formal usage, but apparently it's become some kind of an informal greeting), however to answer your question, I live in the U.S., which is pertinent to my writing, so tonight I have learned some new things, for which I thank you sincerely. Once I learn something, I rarely forget it, and have added this important knowledge to what I have heretofore accumulated.
I will speedily seek to correct these errors of spelling/usage.
    Love and blessings,
    Mary Kay xoxo

Glad to help--seems all UK writers here always use alright even though it may not be all right to do so!

I do appreciate that. By "here" do you mean, on FanStory, or in the UK? Where do you live, Liz? (I know -- not with Dick.) Love, Mary Kay xoxo

I mean all the UK writers on this site. I wonder if it is the norm.

    per https://www.google.com/search?q=alright+vs+all+right+uk

Even though alright is becoming increasingly popular in casual writing, all right is the only acceptable spelling of the phrase in American English.

British English does accept alright in informal settings, but prefers all right in formal writing.

I never thought about it all that much, because in all honesty, up until this point, I thought "alright" was correct... I guess that may have been the subtle effect of repeated exposure, with nothing or no one to contradict it, until now; that someone being you; and behold, I found a plethora of resources to back you up, possibly including the one you cited above.
What I found especially remarkable is the fact that the British now use it as a greeting! As in: "Alright?"
"Why yes, old chap, jolly good."
Okay, that's a little campy, but you get the idea.
One of these same sources also said "alright" seems to be on its way to legitimate acceptance, like "already" and "altogether," but it's not quite there yet, and may take some time to get there.
I was watching TV this weekend with the closed captions turned on, and noticed the word "alright" pop up on my screen (and it wasn't BBC or Masterpiece Theater). Clearly closed captions aren't a great place to learn grammar from, but it gives you an idea how the bastardized word is progressing. I'm not hearing impaired, by the way, but sometimes I keep the closed captions on, because I don't always catch everything that?s being said, and I find that it helps.

Wow, Massachusetts! That's good to know. Thanks for sharing. All those quirky, interesting, fun people you're always writing about, like Scott and Chuck, do seem quite American to me, now that I think about it, unless it's just confirmation bias?
My husband and I visited Massachusetts for our 10th anniversary, although it was something like 6 months later. We went to Hull (on the shore) for 5 days and made some forays into Boston. We didn't leave with a lot of money, and went broke halfway through the trip, but we had a good time, anyway. The shore was beautiful (slightly off season, in May) and Boston was very interesting. I would have enjoyed spending more time there.

Wow. A truly inspired work. Expertly crafted and deeply steeped in love and faith in our Savior and love also for the readers who will eventually enjoy and be further enriched by both the story and the biblical account and subsequent references. Would that I had at least the six stars to award here. However, I am limited and can only give the five that I have been allocated, although it is indeed worthy of more than the six were they mine to give. Exemplary work. Well Done!

You have written a beautiful story of our Lord and Savior.

"There was a [peculiar contrivance] on his head."] I love how you described the crown of thorns. It was very realistic for someone who didn't know they were making fun of Him.

Also, put your scriptures at the end of the "telling." They interrupt the flow of this beautiful writing.

Thank you so much, Amahra, for this beautiful review, your very thoughtful comments and especially for the six stars. I'm so glad you found my story meaningful.
I moved the long Scripture quotation in my Author Notes from the end, to the beginning, after the story and before all of my various explanations; but I'm not sure if you were referring to those verses, or the key verse at the beginning. I wanted to highlight the scriptural reference to the main character in the story, and his significance, rather than keeping the reader guessing. I do see your point, but I'd have to think about moving that to the end. I think many Christians are aware that someone helped Jesus carry his cross, but I seriously doubt that even one in ten would be able to name him! Thank you very much for your suggestion, and for taking the time to read and review this. May God bless you abundantly!

No, not Mark 15:21 that's fine. That one doesn't interrupt the flow.

This line will definitely draw the reader in. I like how you introduced the opportunity for the story to be reviewed. "Grandpapa, I want to hear, one more time, about the day you met Our Lord Jesus," said Penelope, "And this time, please don't leave anything out." This can be a strong metaphor. You pay tribute to all who carry the cross for another. Thank you.

Thank you, Liz, for this great and thoughtful review. I'm happy that you appreciated my story. Yes, there are many who carry a cross for others, but Simon of Cyrene had the singular honor of carrying it for Christ. And Christ is our shining example of selfless love; through faith in Him, so many other acts of love become possible. God bless you, Liz! Love, Mary Kay xoxo

Thank you so much, Carmen, for your beautiful, meaningful and outstanding review, for your important comments and especially for the six stars. Yes, people really need to wake up. It's not just the planet we're destroying, but one another. If more people really knew Jesus, they would treat one another so much better, with the value they deserve. Truly, He is coming back soon.
    May God bless you abundantly!

Thank you so much, Carlos' Girl, for your beautiful review of my story, your meaningful comments and for the six stars. Yes, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, set us free and paid a high price for that freedom, that we may no longer be slaves to sin, its guilt or its penalty. Amen! He did it for love, for the Father and for us, and for "the joy set before him." What an awesome God, Hallelujah!
I'm so happy that you enjoyed my story. God bless you, my friend.
