Rod,

Wow. What a wonderful, creative, imagistic poem of tribute to the debut of Autumn. Lovely, lovely, lovely! I have the slightest of notions why it took top spot. *smile*

I am really curious about why you decided to do:
--> Lost am I in a wine-colored world (instead of:)
--> I am lost in a wine-colored world (?)

Since I realize you have so much more knowledge about these things than I do, I'm grabbing the opportunity for the explanation, please. *smile*

As a rule, I do not like nonets. But how could I not love this poem? Look at these phrases:
** Lost am I in a wine-colored world backlit by a caramel sun.
--> anyone who says that's not magical is just a plain-faced liar. It's as good as any classical poem I've ever read (and a lot better than some of them!)

** Amber-crimson leaves of trees, like soft webs spider-spun,
--> to be honest, I didn't UNDERSTAND this simile? But I love the verbiage. *smile*

This poem was like a beautiful, delicious word soup that I fell into and did not want to be rescued from. I'm sure that made no sense. But I enjoyed it a LOT. I need to visit you way more often.

Thanks a bunch and congrats!

Thank you so much, robyn, for the wonderful praise of my Nonet FALL IS AFFECTIONATE. I am truly honored you enjoyed my imagery so much. Fall does inspire me.
I chose to begin the poem with "Lost am I . . ." because I wanted to emphasize the fact the Speaker is "lost" among those trees in a wonderful sense. I also wanted to emphasize the word because it will later rhyme with the other key word of the poem--Most.
As for the simile you don't understand, I'll let it work on you awhile. The meaning will come.
It's a real pleasure to meet another poet who wants to know how & why I write what I do.

Beautiful nonet poem which describes the rich colors of Fall leaves from crimson-amber, wine, and caramel! I like how you focus on the positive "affection" in the warm colors instead of the cold and darkness.
Congratulations on the win!!

Well-written Nonet about fall. You have used very descriptive words to describe the colour of fall. Truly is is the best season of the year, as nature displays her greatest artistry.

Thank you very much, Mary, for the lovely review. Nonets are more challenging than they look, but fun to write.

This nonet, Fall is Affectionate, has the proper nine to one descending syllable count per line and creates a scene where the sights of a forest walk are more a greeting from nature. Nice.

Your words are very descriptive and I can picture everything that you're talking about. I can feel how it feels in the fall. (if that makes any sense.) The picture that you chose enhances your poem perfectly. Good luck with the contest.
