Well, at least she knows what to do. Her dad should of known to say something before he scared her. Maybe she shouldn't be walking alone at night.
Congrats on your second place finish in the contest.
Keep writng and stay healthy.

You are totally right on both counts. :) We live in a small town - know all the neighbors, etc - so I never think about walking at night, but in the city... Yep.
    Thanks for your congrats!

Congrats on your prize Deb--this cute story has a clever twist--so glad its fictional--vivid description of the punch/kick. Ouch! Fine work in a flash. Cheers. LIZ

Loved this flash fiction Deb, thank you for the morning chuckles. You set it up well, the dark street, the tension then wham, the twist. Great write and good luck in the contest. Cheers

I'm honored! Thank you so much. I started to go for the 'dark' but decided a laugh was better. Glad you agree. :)

LOL. This is one of the reasons why my dad tells me not to sneak up on him, the opposite might happen, lol. I was expecting a different ending but when I saw 'Daddy!' I knew I should've guessed the twist from the start. :) I would say 'hope you win!' but I entered the contest too, so... LOOKOUT! (lol, just kidding.;)

Yesssss to this! I LOVE the tension at the beginning and the surprise ending. I love these types of short stories, build tension, break tension (maybe because I'm not patient?) Thanks for this fun/suspenseful piece! Perfect art work selection, too...

What a fine HOOK, "It was a good thing". Your words flow with seeming effortlessness as they cascade down the page. Your short story builds with an intensity and angst for the anticipated recipient concerning the "noise of someone sneaking up behind you." Then, the twist, "Daddy! I'm so sorry!" Great job.

You did a great job with your contest entry, Deb. The picture is perfect for your well chosen few words. I like the twist at the end though dad sure didn't.

Karate and Taekwondo-->I would not capitalize these 2 words.

Best wishes in the contest.
Respectfully, Jan

Clever one for the Flash Fiction. You built up the story really well, and your last few words provide an excellent and unexpected twist at the end. Humorous to read - although not for either of them at the time, I am sure! But it's fiction, so all good. Best wishes for your entry - it is super!

Ooh, ouch! This is a well-done story, suspenseful at the beginning, with the perfect twist at the end, to add a bit of levity (although I doubt your characters would find it humorous). To your credit, your ending was totally unexpected. You set the scene so well with your mention of her family of cops, and her having been taught martial arts. You insure the reader will expect someone up to no good coming up behind her. I certainly did. Good luck with the contest.

You're very welcome. I enjoy writing these as well, and the twist at the end is the most fun. Sometimes, I wind up thinking of a plot twist first, and then have to build a story around it.
