A brilliant poetic portrayal of this storyteller. Amazing attention to detail, imagery and visuals. I could almost see that man reminiscing of the past and telling tales.
A well sustained rhyme scheme.
He takes you to another age
with chuckles and with sighs
You find yourself in sympathy
when the moisture dims his eyes

I guess I could be counted among the longish living ones Barry, but I'm not sure of the wisdom part, I've done some pretty stupid things in my life, but beautifully written my friend, an excellently and articulately written verse in octaves and abcbdefe well done, blessings Roy

Roy, thanks so much for your kind review. I can also claim to doing many stupid things so far in my life. No doubt I will do some more. I had an Uncle who was a great storyteller. Thanks again and you and your family take care.

This is what I would refer to as a nice comfortable poem, expressing the value of seemingly simple things in life. It was easy to read and understand with good use phrases. Did you mean to capitalize embellish?

A lovely poem about an old story teller, described vividly and with realism. Nothing means more to an older person than to be able to share his life stories with people who are interested. Excellent metre and rhyme. Good wishes for your entry in the contest!

Your poem paints a wonderful "word picture" of the wise old storyteller. The imagery is evocative and I especially liked the ending where he "lifts his mug and sips his beer and dreams of better days." Well done.

Wow! What a great entry for the no rules contest. I used to work in a nursing home and there was an elderly patient who loved to tell tales of when he was a boy. A wonderfully written poem, best of luck in the contest. :)
