Well, I think you speak for a lot of people who value their guns and are fearful of the Left. Unfortunately, the demonizing of the Left can be equally displeasing to God Who made His children of both extremes as well as the middle-roaders.
When we were in Israel, we saw mount Meggido (it's what Armageddon is based on Har (means mountain) plus Meggido became Armageddon after traveling from Hebrew to Greek to Latin to English.) Anyway, you'd be shocked at what a dinky little hill it is. In fact, all those geographical places are really tiny in real life!

    Hello Helen,
Thanks for taking the time to read and review this story. I had to go back and read it again; it's been awhile since I wrote it. I agree, God doesn't play favorites, but I fear that the policies that have put the Lord on the back burner have led to things like defunding the police and all the chaos that has been the result of that. I believe that God wants law and order, the principles of which should be taught in the home.
I've never been to Israel. I'm sure I would find it much different than what I would imagine it to be. All my overseas traveling is behind me. I saw a lot of countries when I was in the navy in the seventies. What I would like to do now before it's too late is see more of this country. My body doesn't like sitting in a car for more than a few hours at a time, so it might take months to go from coast to coast.
Thanks for the correction. There are so many helpful people on this site, and I've learned so much.
    Have a blessed day.
    Tom

Oh, I agree. And things did go downhill when they stopped allowing prayer in school and Biblical values being taught. Still, we should not add to the divisiveness but see God's love for both right and left extremists.
I do hope you will got across country and write us a travelogue about your adventures!

Thanks so much Helen. You're right. I was thinking about when they took prayer out of school. I think I was in second grade at the time. I understand that the lady who led the charge for taking prayer out ended up being murdered. When there are no moral values taught, then anything goes. Thanks for your comments, I value what you have to say.

Yet God raised another woman at that same time to start an international group called Moms In Prayer. If they took prayer out of school, then there rose an army of praying moms that took up the battle. Don't worry. God's still in control.

Thanks for the encouragement Helen. I never heard of Mom's in Prayer. It doesn't matter what the enemy does, as you say, God is still in control.
    Have a blessed evening gal.

BRAVO!!!! I had wanted to enter this contest too and believe it or not my story was almost word for word of yours. Not word for word, but you know what I mean. I couldn't get it fit enough to enter the contest. I finally gave up. When I started reading your story I was so excited because we were on the same wavelength but yours outshines mine like a hundred percent!! I'm so excited that yours turned out perfectly!!!! Good luck with the contest! You have my vote hands down!!!! God bless!

Oh my word, thanks so much Patty. I think I'm going to blush gal. This was written out of scenarios that have played in my mind increasingly in the past few years. When respect for law and order go out the window, it becomes the law of the jungle. Pretty scary to think about. I truly appreciate your kind words and the six stars. I'm honored.

This sounds like something that could actually happen, a doomsday scenario not too far removed from today's reality. Our country is so divided and off the rails, in so many ways. We have turned our backs on God, or at least too many of us have -- which is never a good idea for any nation.

I have offered some suggestions for grammatical improvement, for your consideration:

I hear you, on the possible consequences of these vaccine mandates. I can't believe how they're trying to force it on our first responders and health care workers, our heroes who put their lives on the line. There are other ways to manage this pandemic. The powers that be don't even recognize natural, hard-won immunity of recovered Covid patients (which can be tested), a sure sign that the mandates are 100% political and not based on science.

Thank you Mary Kay for the review and the suggestions for improvement. It's hard to believe that this is our country anymore. It's going to change, one way or the other, just not sure what direction we'll take.

You're very welcome, my anonymous friend. It's hard to imagine things getting better right away, if biblical prophecies will soon be fulfilled about about Antichrist, the man of lawlessness etc., and the love of many growing cold. But "the one who stands firm to the end shall be saved." God is faithful and will not abandon those who love Him.
May God bless you. - Mary Kay

I love it, I am a great fan of dystopia novels and actually won first prize for my story in the same contest in 2020, it's called Without Warning. I hope you win, God bless, Laura

Thanks so much Laura. I'm honored by your great review. I wish the story didn't strike so close to home.

I think you've more or less nailed the world today, and even though this may be partially fictitious, it's actually unfolding before our very eyes. Mankind has more or less inclined this way anyway, but it's gradually reaching this stage. Beautifully written, good entry, good luck, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy for the review. The bible mentions that as in the days of Noah, so will the last days be. I'm afraid we're approaching those last days.

If found this engrossing because I wrote a post-apocalyptic novel in the early nineties with some of the introductory text very much mirroring yours. All the signs have been there for a LONG time. Some suggestions follow:

twenty mile ==> twenty-mile

I had, but I didn't want to mention that when I'd seen it, her fur was matted with dried blood -- the dog should be an it or her, not both (I would also introduce the dog's name and breed at first mention, thus establishing she/her later.)

for what I was willing to do. ==> I am (you are in the present)

Chilling scenario packs a political punch. I'm not in a position to argue--disturbing developments indeed. You masterfully wove our social woes into this stunning piece.

Thanks Elizabeth for your review. I'll go back and correct that error, although on the one hand it would be correct, the way I meant it is the way you mentioned.

I'm sorry that this is a very scary but seems realistic situation. Yes. I'm not happy with the situation at school, in the media and at work. I have a good job and are retiring soon. I'm waiting for my Tesla Cyber truck which is bullet proof and has a surgical grade air quality inside. I will order a Tesla solar roof and a power wall for my house.

Well done and good luck.
