This story is charming and full of pathos. It carries the reader gracefully through to the ending surprise. You need no advice from me on how to make it better.

Very interesting. I could not tell what relation Charlotte was to the speaker or others. But, I think the writing and the moments built and shared was very nice and made for a touching story.

Now, being honest, I think this story would be better without the last line. I think that takes something away from the tale. A surprise, yes, but one without clues or noticeable purpose.

Thank you for reviewing. Much appreciated. The last line was meant to not have clues, and it was meant to challenge the reader's assumption of a human grandma - and to show that dogs are just as much a part of the family as humans.

You have scribed my wife perfectly Wendy, but you've also described our last dog Buddy, in the last two years of his life he was devoted to our granddaughter Indah, up to the day he died, he would follow her around, she would rest her arm on him, but she missed him so much when he departed, she was only four, and she'd say,
"I have a dog, he's gone to the hospital, he was sick." We couldn't explain Buddy wouldn't be coming back, he adored kids, the ideal family dog. This beautiful story reminds of Elaine and Buddy, blessings Roy

Hello Wendy,
This was a nice family story. The whole time I was reading it I was envisioning a wrinkled, jolly old lady. It would make perfect sense that an old dog would be patient with a child, maybe more so than a human being would. Thanks for sharing.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Thank you Tom for a super review. I am glad you thought that she would be a wrinkled jolly old lady!

Oh, that's such a sweet story! And that last line was a surprise because we all imagined a human grandma but Grandma was a loving, patient canine friend. Hope this does well in the contest!
