Exactly 30 syllables.

I have lost most of my tolerance for manipulation. It took me more years than I can count to finally say enough is enough. What a freeing experience! I find manipulators do not abruptly stop, but instead are more cautious, less demanding or critical, though they will still test the water when they notice a weak moment.

Your poem and author notes are words of wisdom. Love the artwork too and the overall presentation. I feel often that I'm walking that tightwire.

Great entry for the contest!

Thank you so much. You understood perfectly what I was trying to say. It is subtle but still wrong, and disrespectful of one's value as an individual. Your thoughts and comments are spot on, exactly right.
And it's often done in the name of "honesty" and "care".

This seems to be an awakening for the poet to finally say, "Enough" and to be emotionally abused no more. Perhaps to show a bit more finality, I suggest the last line to be : Enough! No more! (entirely up to you.)
Great message and hope you do well in the contest!

' Tightrope ', is an extremely well-written and delightfully descriptive piece. Penned with craft and skill. This talented poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review. Good luck with the contest. Please let me know how you get on?

You have the 30 syllables and your message is clear and well delivered. The elements of emotional dependency that results in abuse in a relationship are well presented in this piece. The last line is a strong ending.

**review edited up a star, following author revision**

This is fine on content but it is almost impossible to read. And I'm in my 30s. Imagine someone in their 80s reading it. More contrast! Lighten up that font color! A whitish or even bright orange might work.

Oh sorry! I had it in white, then edited it, and must have forgotten to return it to white. I will change it immediately, if you want to have another read with the hope of earning anther star from you. So glad you pointed it out.

The truth sometimes is difficult to see or understand.
Great job! An easy read and good flow.
Makes a person stop and think of what really is going on.
Listen to your doctor? Listen to your government?
Or just you?
Thank you.

Thank you for your interesting review. Appreciated. I didn't have politicians or doctors in mind, I was thinking more of personal relationships where one person manipulates the other into doing what s/he wants, but there is no reason why it can't be expanded - especially when leaders or would-be leaders and others exercise these narcissistic traits. Maybe that's why they are in their positions, because they are skilled at emotional manipulation. Thank you for your thoughts.

This is a clever thirty syllables worth of description of the narcissist character of men who would bend their partners to their ways by making them feel guilty should they try to run counter to that which 'He' prescribes. I would point out that this character trait is not exclusively found amongst males.

Thank you so much for reviewing. Yes, I know a woman like this, but here I needed to distinguish between perpetrator and victim. Thought it might be clearer this way. But I could address the perpetrator "You" and the victim "them". I don't want to be judgmental against men. Thanks for making me think again about the wording.

This is known as bullying and when you don't allow someone to be themselves and shine, there is probably some jealousy hidden inside their behaviour too, a poignant write, love Dolly x

Thank you very much, I appreciate your review. Yes, I agree totally, and it may be more subtle than physical abuse, but it is not acceptable.

This is a nice poem, full of understated emotions. It's a powerful topic and you deal with it well here. I particularly like the emphatic ending you give it. Thanks for sharing this and have a great day

It can, indeed, be a balancing act. Your poem exposes the fragile ego that causes people to become control freaks. As you say, enough is enough. Get out while the going is good.
