Dear Liz, I really am sorry to see you go, and I wish I had been on FS more, so that I would have been able to give you a better response to this while your membership was still active. I will really miss your entertaining tales, which have so often been drawn from your life, friends and neighbors.
I have been praying for you and your family -- I know some of them suffer from illnesses. I do hope you change your mind about your membership, and re-enlist (sounds like the Army, lol).

I was about to ship my Filter Queen to Scott's finishing school for vacuum cleaners, and I was hoping to get progress reports from you. Apparently that is not going to happen. Hrumph. Might as well keep the old wind-bag here now.
Congratulations on being Short Story Writer of the year, LIZ! It was a most enjoyable adventure. You clocked the highest score I've ever seen in prose in all my years here. The ranking ratio must be 2.5 for prose to 1 poetry, all other things being equal.
Keep in touch, unless of course you change your mind. I've heard that "other" place is not nearly as cool as FanStory. ;-)

Oh that's good news. I thought we couldn't access a standard member's portfolio, but I shall wait and see how that works.

Most standard members don't have a portfolio--1) if they were never paying members, they wouldn't have been able to post OR 2) they let their membership expire--TOM can remove the portfolio (and restore it when they pay up). I paid extra for the "eternal flame," so my portfolio will stay, even after I'm dead!

Plus you are premier shield member. A premier member only portfolio does go to standard and is inaccessible, but yours will be available because you have the shield. I purchased the eternal flame too, quite by accident, but there you go. :))

The two are offered together--thanks for the confirmation--I ran the scenario by TOM a week before I decided not to renew. What remains to be seen is whether I will be allowed to repromote prior work--I've got $$$ for being in top ten. Too bad that I probably will be unable to edit my work--which means I can't cut/paste it as a whole into the other site. In view mode, my new laptop won't let me highlight the entire text--only one para at a time.
As to rank formulas--poetry and prose--bottom line is they reflect total # reviews (because everyone gets mainly 5-stars). Thus, some of our finest writers are not highly ranked simply because they don't post often. Conversely, some of the worst get high rankings because they post twice a day and/or pump high to get more reviews. Not mentioning names--be assured: none of them is Gloria.

There is an algorithm that someone mentioned in the forum years ago, which I have since forgotten, because in the end it's really about the
writing. You are right though, quantity figures in prominently. I also took the $110 member dollars over a trophy.
Probably the best way is to have a friend promote one of your works using a base certificate, the revival one, and then my guess is you would be able to add additional promotion. But if you re-promote a work before two years have elapsed, your fans will not be notified, and you will pay significantly more to promote your post to the front page, which is the only way your fans can find it, without violating site rules. (ie asking for reviews)
With a revival base cert (after two years) the cost is quite reasonable, otherwise promotion is about triple. Might be a good idea to check in with Tom, but that has been my experience.

I think you're confusing this with something else--this isn't a story and there are no characters.
