What a great thing to do! Bless sweet Rebecca and Ellie for their generosity! Their beautiful locks will grow again soon! I know some women are devastated by the loss of hair. I never had a lot of hair so losing mine during chemo six years ago was not a big deal. I started to wear hats. But now I do have hair almost to my waist - sparse but hair does grow back - another miracle of God's creation of the body!

Reading this story gave me chills, Wendy. What beautiful girls you have raised. It sounds like there is a lot of cancer where you are. I know there's plenty here too, but I personally know of only a couple of people who have died from it.

I used to have long, thick hair when I was young. I can remember only three times in my life that I got it all cut off. I wish I'd know about the opportunity to donate it when I did.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. Your kind words are much appreciated. Apparently the death rate from cancer in Australia is about one in three, which is high.

Wow, that is high! I wonder why?

How brave they are to have their hair cut for charity and you must be very proud of them both and at least their hair will grow back and it doesn't take long and they might even like their new styles! I enjoyed your lovely story, love Dolly x

Wendy,

Wow. What huge hearts! I know you must be so proud. Those girls have been raised to not only consider others but to LIVE their concern. That's more than a lot of adults I know will do. How wonderfully kind~!

That is lovely, my elder child, Rebecca, has fine hair so she's always had to "doctor" hers, but Catherine's hair is long and lustrous, as is my only granddaughter, Indah, yes, indeed, that's is a lovely gesture, real hair wigs are expensive, beautifully written, bravo. Blessings Roy

Thank you for sharing this writing prompt entry with us. Yes, donating hair a wonderful and powerful thing to do. I have known many people who have lost hair and lives to that powerful disease. I am a breast cancer survivor. During chemo, I did not wear a wig, I wore a scarf. Wigs are simply too hot for Texas.

I wish I had a six for this because this poem is so worthy! How sad that there are so many cancer victims. but how special that those who do not have cancer support them by sacrificing the one thing people with cancer lose, their hair. Rebecca voluntarily sacrificed their hair for those that lose it also, but due to cancer. Amazing! You taught them well, to consider others first.:)

We sound like we have much in common. We are here on earth to care for each other aren't we? :) Great story!

Theirs will of course grow back but it will take time before it reaches the luxuriant length it had at one time attained. This was a most generous offer on the part of both of them. Very well done.

This is a fine story to share for the true family story contest.
I can understand that attachment to long hair. Especially when it has been on one's head for so long. I used to have long hair. It was a brave decision by young Ellie. Compassion obviously runs in the family and Rebecca is a fine example. Thank you for sharing this reflective read.
