Well written quatrain, with smooth flow and metre, and carefully constructed rhyme. The vivid imagery enables the reader to visualise the scene well (despite trying to keep cool in humid summer weather!). Best wishes for your entry.

I loved the insanely brilliant imagery provoked by your words! They both painted a picture and played the music of the snow covered post-storm world. I wasn't crazy about the rhyme of the last stanza, but I know that people use near-rhymes all the time and it wasn't enough for me to want to down the star count. Again - LOVED your imagery.

I am so pleased you love the imagery in my Quatrain, sherry. I am curious about why you think "sport" and "short" are but NEAR rhymes.

What a delightful portrait painted so effectively with such well-chosen words of an after storm scene, vividly described - one can almost feel that icy chill- how I wish I had 6 remaining stars for this ! Will catch up with it in the voting booth

You've written an excellent quatrain poem
with wonderful meter that flows down the page
and exact rhymes in the abcb pattern.
It's a marvelous scene when the snow is all shoveled and plowed,
the sun is shining and the wind is still,
but it took a lot of work to get to that point.
Excellent imagery.
Best wishes and good luck in the contest.

A beautiful poetic offering, Mystery Writer!
You have described Traverse City, Michigan, where I live, perfectly.
We surely have our share of snowstorms each winter; just recovering from one today, which was a doozy!
Your visual descriptions are realistic and clean.
My favorite stanza is your last:
A turn-your-collar-up stiff breeze (delightful phrase!)
hints strongly now more snow's to come.
But presently my town's serene,
a postcard world that's optimum.

Thank you for sharing!
Best Wishes!

I am so pleased you enjoyed my poem, Diane, and much appreciate your wonderful praise. I live directly across the lake from you, yet have never been to Traverse City. I hear it?s fabulous in the summer.

Fabulous all year long, but our little corner of the world grows exponentially in the summer! :)

This fine poem has it all! It is superb--skillfully composed with excellent rhyme and meter and brilliantly descriptive of the snow storm and its many effects. GREAT metaphors in lines 9 and 11!

I would agree, the image is optimum! But, you've covered the Burrrrr perfectly as well. Your poem tells the story of the storm, and the storm yet to come. Nicely written. Best of luck to you in the contest.

Wow! I really enjoyed your all sensory well crafted quatrains. You conjure sense of sight ("Victorian houses fringe the street,") and hearing (" wind's a newborn baby's squall" "becoming then a codger's wheeze) and smell ("yet ling'ring still's the scent of pines") and feeling ("turn-your-collar-up stiff breeze"). You made the scene really come alive while using poetic devices of alliteration, assonance, and personification. Super job and I hope you do well in the contest!

Your poem provides a perfect illustration of a snow storm. Great words you have used - I like the line: "The wind's a newborn baby's squall"
We are expecting a big storm on Monday, and it is very cold here.
