Being thankful for friends both good and bad is a healthy way to look at life. I admire your tenacity and your strength of conviction. This is an excellent poem and the flow and the rhymes are both well done.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Jesse

You have so eloquently described the loneliness and fatigue while growing old. You also so well inspire thinking more deeply and emphatetically and take life as it comes along.
Thank you for sharing my friend!
Blessings with hugs and kisses dear jaybird!

The author's words are expressed with emotion. I found the poem sad,
clear and creative. Thank you for the author's notes - they show a sign
of hope in focusing on the gifts of life. The poem flows and connects well.
Please keep writing - you are an exceptional author.

Jaybird, as we grow older, you and I, thoughts of life ending is always present on our minds. I don't know when my time will come, however,
I can't complain about the life I am living. I'm ready to go in spirit, but my
mind would like to stay a little longer. Like you, I seem to be out living my friends and relatives.

Jaybird,

97 and counting. I understand what you mean by time flying. If we are so fortunate to live so long, hopefully, we have enough wisdom to cherish all we have had the opportunity to witness and experience.

I have an ex- sister in law who is 72 and does not enjoy life at all. She stated the other day, she's tired and just wants to go in her sleep. I found that distressing because she has a huge loving and supportive family. But she has always been this way, mostly negative. She doesn't have any major health issues.

You are an inspiration because, in spite of your trials and obstacles, which are inevitable and most likely many at an older age, you are still thankful and still being creative instead of stagnant.

keep writing and inspiring

Great. I'm in the same boat there, lost all but three of my high school friends, and I am still amazed at how fast time has flown.
However, with the way the world is changing and most of the family-instilled beliefs going, I am not sure I want to be around another 80+ years.
The grandkids liven things up, I hope we can straighten up and leave them a better world.
Good work,
irish

Your words are vivid and I am sure many at your age feel this way. Your poetic form is smooth and your words bring forth feelings and the importance of memories. Excellent poem.

To be present is to be a recipient of the gift of life. When you contribute to peace and happiness, you in a significant way return the gift or as it is said today, you pay it forward. The experience gained from a long and uninterrupted life makes this not only possible, but easier as well.

I think most of us write at times about our own mortality, but realistically do not confront it except in our imagination. Your poetry is so important for those of us who aspire to write with the conviction, the honesty, the humility, and the wisdom that you impart with every poem.
Thank you and All the Best!

Phil
