I like the way you've written the contest rules in for the outing for Nan and her granddaughter. And what a great day it would have been to a sunflower farm. Good luck in the contest Wendy. Cheers

Good entry for the Family Fiction Story writing prompt contest. Nice story in its entirety and compelling in structure. The telling flows well. Good luck in the contest.

I agree with Ellie Jane, the contest has a lot of rules. LoL

What a splendid story! It goes in the opposite (but equally valid) direction of my contest entry. There is one thing she forgot to add to the rules and that was restrictions on violence. Ellie-Jane sounds like a great vintage name that would make conservatives happy. Good luck! Four out of six entries here took the satire route. Maybe that means we are winning, even though our individual entires probably won't. LOL

Thank you so much. I will check out yours too. For some reason violent deaths are acceptable in family stories. Yes, there is a message being sent, but I am not sure about the result. I had a bit of fun writing mine.

Sunflowers are wonderful flowers besides they produce sunflower seeds. We have sunflowers around where we live; the owner planted them and now they are in memory of his wife who passed.

So beautiful! And their centres are so complex. I love the way they follow the sun throughout the day. Many thanks for your review.

This story, The Sunflower Farm Story, makes most of the story about the promoter's ridiculous specifications for the challenge. This kind of limits the story beyond this contest though.

Thank you for your astute review, and yes, that was the intention, the story was to show just how limiting such unnecessary rules are, for a family story ... and it ends up a non-story.

Hahaha. Great piece for the contest, Wendy. I'll admit, the, "I'll ask M-" part has me a little confused. I'll ask Mom? Oh, now I see it. I didn't realize it had to either be the parents or grandparents. Okay, now I'm on board. Lol.
I wish you the best of luck in the booth, W. Thanks for the chuckle.

Thanks Ron. Yes, you got it. It said "in lieu of" so I wasn't going to risk mentioning both generations. I appreciate your great review and good wishes too.

Wendy this is hilarious! A story that sticks to the rules for sure, all tongue-in-cheek. Poor Ellie-Jane must have been so frustrated when everything she tried to say wasn't allowed because of the rules. :) Well done. Good luck in the contest.

Glad to see others feel like I do.

Guess the worst for me is the rule about no adopted children. I have two concerns with this:

1. Most people on this site know I write, and have written, many books and stories about a very popular adopted boy. This one rule I feel was included to prevent my entering any of his stories in these contests. Always thought contests were supposed to be open to ALL members.

2. Having been adopted in real life, I feel this is an insinuation adopted children are somehow less than natural-born children.

Hope your well written story does superbly in this contest. Really liked it.

Thank you Brett! I appreciate your very thoughtful and wise review, and I agree with you 100%. Adopted children are of equal value, and after all we are God's adopted children and of utmost importance to Him.
We fostered long-term (10 years) a severely disabled boy, and I am now his legal guardian, and I think my next story will include him, as we count him as an equal family member. Then doubtless there will be a rule about no disabilities! Time to set up an alternative contest maybe.
Thank you too for the six stars! I greatly appreciate this honour, and am humbled to receive it.

Naughty, Wendy! But it's so cleverly done that I forgive you completely. I accept that rules are important. But if they become excessive and niggling this rouses
the natural rebel in all of us.

Charming tale in its own right.

Good luck in the prompt.

Stay safe and blessed

Julia

Thanks so much for reviewing Julia. I greatly appreciate it. Normally I am far from being a rebel (more a quiet mouse!!) but occasionally .... Ah well. Lol.
