If this is fiction or nonfiction, I don't know. But I sure hope things work out for the fellow, mother and father. Emotions can be really bad if you don't seek help; although you said there was nothing you could do.

It's true, my son developed schizophrenia when he was 21 years old. It's been a struggle with meds and hospitalizations ever since. As a family, we deal with it. Thank you for reading my poem.

This is such a sad scenario but written beautifully. One can feel the exasperation, frustration, and possible guilt of the writer, even if guilt is misplaced. One is left feeling concerned primarily about the son, which, of course, should be the case. Poor man. Very nicely written.
PK.

It is difficult to watch your child going through mental illness that affects him so harshly. When you're scared you don't always handle things in the best ways. It's hard not to blame yourself even though you know there is nothing that you did to make this come about. Hang in there! He needs you! Good luck with the contest.

Your son may be having problems with the way the world is going, author. Even I have problems and a hard time overcoming them. We all look like bandits walking the streets away looking everywhere, trying to avoid that pesky virus. It's enough to drive me and many other people paranoid. Good entry for the Feelings Poetry Contest.

You are right, I think the problems of this world and threat of covid have scared him. So perhaps that makes his schizophrenia worst. It's a definite struggle for sure. Thanks so much for reading my poem and for your insightful comments.

I am so sorry that you and your son are dealing with mental illness. My sister is going through the same thing. Unfortunately, our country isn't the best when it comes to getting help for them. I'll be sending many thoughts, prayers and blessings your way

I'm sorry your sister is going through this...and your family as well. It's a struggle but we're lucky here that mental illness is taken very seriously and he gets a lot of help. Sadly, things have gotten worse and his meds aren't working like they did. I'll pray for your sister and for you, I wish you the very best.

I like this piece. As an individual living with Bi Polar disorder it truly speaks to me. I can relate to both sides of the emotions presented here. You have managed to put into words a very difficult situation to live with. Well done.

I guess that this writing prompt is bringing out feelings that perhaps a number of people on this site have, but haven't expressed until now. Mental illness is a pox on a family. There are no winners. The person suffering with it is in prison as well as those who love them. It's hard for those who haven't dealt with it to understand what others are experiencing. I hope that by sharing these feelings you might find some relief and comfort in knowing that you aren't alone. I'll be praying for you and your son tonight, and all those who are suffering a like illness.
God bless and keep you.
Tom
