This is a moving post as I was just talking to a friend about their 19-year-old grand nephew who's dying of cancer. At least, we know he will have a perfect body in Heaven. Thanks for this! Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you Helen. It's so common! Even among children, and would be devastating for parents to lose a child. The grief is still there despite the comfort of the Scriptures and the peace of His presence and promises. He understands.

This is a great entry for the contest, Wendy. So many people have the mistaken idea that we become angels when we die, but I like that you have pointed out, that we will not, but will have an immortal body.

Thank you Anne. Such a lovely review! Yes, although my story is fiction, I did want to present some truthful Biblical facts for readers to consider.

This has the perfect form required for the writing prompt. I know I should find it uplifting but that picture coupled to the first line is so sad. A young child who knows (s)he is dying, and it's not normal anymore that parents bury their children. You have created so much emotion in your reader in so few words. Wonderful.

Yes, I understand. The peace does not take away our human grief, but reassures us with His presence through it. Jesus wept at Lazarus' death also, yet He knew that there would be coming joy when He brought him back to life. Grief is the price of great love. Thank you for the beautiful and thoughtful review.

Hi Wendy,
I used to ask myself, how will God be able to make me in my own form in Heaven if I'm cremated one day? What about people who die in a fire, or are blown to bits in war? What about those who wish their ashes to be scattered on a lake or into a river? or sprinkled from a mountain top or airplane? How can God gather the dust and form them in Heaven so they are recognizable? I understand that we will be able to recognize others... our family members and friends. Jesus disciples recognized Him as He walked the earth after His resurrection. It's all a huge mystery, isn't it? We'll be in spiritual form for eternity. But we'll bear the image of our earthly self. It's mind boggling.
Good entry for the 39 Word Spiritual Fiction writing prompt, Wendy. Good Luck with it!
Your author notes address the subject very well.
Hugs,
Kimbob

Hi Kimbob, yes I understand your questions and have asked myself the same, and I guess that the answer is that He is so much more powerful than we can comprehend, and so much beyond our imagining, simply because by definition that is God. I even wonder how He can answer everyone's prayers at the same time, work out paths for all our intersecting lives, and so on. But He is God, and what he says will happen. What a lovely review, very thought-provoking, and much appreciated.

Beautiful short flash fiction, Wendy. Even more beautiful are the verses you reference in the note and you're clarification about angels. You encouraged me greatly with this great post and the verses touched my heart.

Thank you Tim for your super review, which is very encouraging. I think the Scriptures are very powerful, and can speak far better than I, and may encourage others to read the Bible. I think there is a lot of misinformation about us becoming angels, floating on clouds etc, so wanted to share that this is not so. We'll each have a resurrected body, perfect and immortal, and recently I was struck by the fact that He said that He Himself would come back for us, not send an angel or some-one we once knew etc. I found that very encouraging. I must stop! You'll never read it all otherwise! Lol. So much for 39 words!

Beautiful poem. Straight forward, clear and spiritual. I like the message of hope and seeing your way to peace during tragedy. The image is perfect for the poem. Well done.

Thank you Ella. I appreciate your kind review - but I am wondering if you have any suggestions to improve it, to earn a fifth star ...

Powerful work in 39 words. Compelling deathbed scene--interaction of mother and child is heartrending, and ultimately comforting for both. You met requirements!

Excellent! You did it!
Great work.
The only trouble is that I'll have more words in the review than you did in the writing.
God bless.
I hope you win the contest.

Thank you Wayne. You're wonderful. Yes that 150 character imposition makes it hard to write a lot for very short pieces - but thank you so much for doing it!
