Hi there,

This is a nice little piece. My friends have the same issue as they have 6 dogs and they keep having to move house but it's difficult with so many large pets...

All the best

Thank you. It must be tough for your friends to find a place to rent. Most landlords won't allow animals.

There is nothing like a comforting cuddle. I wouldn't know, my ex was as Cold as Ice...and just like the song, he didn't want to touch me. Yes, cats have a way of letting us cuddle them and sometimes (if they like it) they will smooch back to you. Unless you're gay and have a female then men to me seem to be cold and just into their children (their seed), which I'm not.

So hence the six stars. I'm glad you said what I've been thinking for a long time, that pets are better than people. They pose a problem when it comes to accommodation. Perhaps a small house with a big yard for your pets? I don/t know the answer since I don't where you live.
Jan.

Thank you for reading and commenting. I do seem more inclined to animals than people, especially men.

You have done a great job with a different take on the prisoner theme. You have pointed out some of the pitfalls of growing older. That last paragraph is very clever.

This is such a charming, lovely piece--one that resonates deeply with me. I too have had two husbands and numerous pets. The pets caused me no grief! You do have a predicament, but you do love those pets!

Great entry for this Prisoner contest. I live in an apartment and don't have any pets, but I can understand how you are so attached to them, that you would rather stay in your house. I like that you clarified about loving your husband even if he wasn't as soft and cuddly.

Excellent entry for the The Prisoner writing prompt contest. You followed the rules well. The flash fiction has a clear plot that though short it conveyed effective ideas.

I agree, animals can be wonderful companions and some better than husbands. LoL

Good luck in the contest.

I appreciated your story. I relate to your love of cats. I'm a dog person myself. I loved my dogs over the years, but found that I moved around too much. And I had too much love and respect for them to put them in a shelter or a kennel with strangers. But we make our choices. I'm sure yours is the right one for you. Best wishes.

Thank you. Yes, my choice is right but it is an expensive choice.

You are welcome. I suspect that the expense of your cats is still worth it.

Dear Mystery Writer,

HAHAHAHAHA! So far, as I'm reading through contest entries, I've failed to even (imo) find ones that meet the criteria, much less are INTERESTING. (sorry - don't tell anyone. shhhhh...)

And then I come up on your post. I thought it was a fabulous breath of fresh air. It was short and sweet, but told a nice story. The ending was a twist that made me smile. And crazy best part? You PAID me to read it! hahaha!

Thanks so much and good luck!

This one-hundred-word short story, For the Love of Cats, has the required word limitations and comes to the reasonable assertion that anything is better than men.

Thank You. I don't know, I think men are okay in their place. It's just that a cat is more cuddy and appreciative.

Love your posting, Mystery Writer. I have one cat, a stray, that I took in this summer. I now call her my Diva Cat. lol Your Writing Prompt entry is an exciting one concerning your feline situation. Have you watched Bohemian Catsody on Youtube? It is hilarious. Only a cat person can truly appreciate the nuances. Best wishes! :-)
