Loved the way you told the story with the repeated "I'll never ask for anything again" motif. ! With knowing Clark Gable, that puts his birth year a long time ago so he didn't die recently, right? But he certainly was an interesting man who survived getting polio and even continued to walk with God afterwards.

Wow, thank you for the six stars!!! There was much to be told about Jim, I am not sure I am the one to tell it. He was also a writer, he wrote a book, "Stone Bruise". You might be able to find it. It is fiction, but some of it is based on his life, but no reference to polio. If you do find the book, you will also find he was a good writer too. Thank you for your kind remarks

This was an excellent story of this incredible man, its a shame he passed away after all his accomplishments, he certainly had a full life and that is the most important thing all of us strive for.

What a remarkable story and what an awesome writer you are. I hope you submitted this to Chicken Soup for the Soul. Jim had some very famous friends starting with Clark Gable. Hard to believe that he overcame terrific odds, but it can happen. Love the ending.

Jim was a remarkable man for his deep faith, his strength in facing adversity and it appears also that people were drawn to him for his kindness and personality.
Very well done in introducing this man and telling of his bargaining with God. I think what God gave him was the determination to succeed.

This was such a great story and tribute to an old friend. He must have been a great man. For one thousand people to attend any funeral, they had to stand out in the community. I really enjoyed this story. Good luck.
