Beautifully written poem with an equally beautiful sentiment. I enjoyed the artwork and color story. They contributed to the mood of your poem. I hope you keep writing and submitting your work.

Hola Marival, this is a beautiful tanka. It's such a lovely.portrait you paint with your words in this tanka . Then pivot line is perfect, I hardly noticed as it effortlessly brought us on to the last lines. Un abrazo, Ulla:)))

Your words are as gentle and sensual as the picture you choose.
One can almost smell the vanilla, sandalwood, and gardenias in the air.
Thank you for the sweet words.
Best wishes,
Mary

Of these three listed today this is my least favorite. Dreams and Sweet Scents are my favorites and are deserving of five stars. So what I am going to do is cut and paste this comment to be sure to give you credit on those as well as this one. Where did your interest in Japanese life begin?
Do you have a piece written describing it/ if so please share.

I like this poem - Long after she's gone...the old Emperor must be in a physical location with stimuli that are triggering memories in his subconscious, (that retains 100% of all memories unlike the conscious mind) reminding his senses with the smells of vanilla and sandalwood; and the views of objects in his bedchamber, perhaps with gardenias in full bloom outside the window...all reminding him of the virility of his faded youth, love and sensuality. As visually portrayed in the artwork. Woven together nicely in your poem. Nice dream.

Oh yes indeed, that sense of smell is a very strong prompt for the memory, it's the first thing that assails the memory to provoke the imagery to stir the soul, well done, a great post, well done blessings Roy

What a great poem about fragrances! Gardenias are so pungent that it's surprising that her fragrances of vanilla and sandalwood "lingers lazily" with the emperor "long after she is gone." She must be some lady!

This was a fantastic Tanka, Gypsy. I was a little surprised that Vanilla was a world wide scent and that Gardenias scent was a favorite of Japan. But it all made sense with your words. I found the picture of the maiden with the art work on her back beautiful but the dragon was magnificent. Very well done, immensely enjoyed. Blessed be n hugs!

You always make your poems not only stay to Japanese forms, but to Oriental ideas. A very evocative poem. The picture again adds to the essence of the words.

Thanks for a good read.
