This makes me think of many things, strange things that are probably not at all what you intended, but this strange time has done strange things to my mind. I see light glistening off the sea as I walk hand-in-hand with my lover, I taste the joy of drinking cider just beyond the harbour wall, outside a bar, and above all I hear myself begging you to put me in your suitcase and take me with you. I pause to think. I would love to live in the pocket of my beloved.
Your poem has succeeded in bringing me to a happy place - an impossible feat this week. Thank you. Kate xx

Oh Kate,
As woman, as friend, as writer, as , daughter, sister...all of us are tumbled and tossed as sea glass.
We are all one arc of improbability away from being lifted up!
I am elated the poem brought you to some happiness.
Thank you for these moving words, these six stars!

This was so beautiful, Karenina. The picture was perfect because is showed a piece of Amethyst glass in the sandy beach of the sea. Your words were indicative of finding something special but mostly we find ourselves. Very well done, greatly enjoyed.

Thank you so much!
I think we alk search and search...until we find ourselves. Sometimes it is through the loving eyes of another we see our true worth!
You nailed it!

What a fine poem this is. It has been a while since I have looked for sea glass, that interesting interaction of nature and man.
Your delicate use of a soft touch, mixed with the images of wanton, unrelenting waves, bring this piece right to life.
A superb free verse that can be read over and over for new meaning. :))

Wow! This is a wonderful poem, Karenina! I thoroughly enjoyed it. It reminded me of a song on Noel Paul Stookey's 1982 album, "Wait'll You Hear This", written and sung by Karla Thibodeau...
"Not As We Are"

Karla passed away on Father's Day, June 19th of 2011. She was like sea glass, but polished by the Father.
There's a metaphor here, too, methinks... that Jesus is like sea glass, polished (without sin), but "dashed to shore by wanton waves". Nice alliteration there with "wanton waves". Who drove Him to the cross? We did. We were those "wanton waves". We won't admit it, but our sin is the same as it was back then. He died for us, too.
"There, there, by your feet,
miraculously in your path!
You stoop,
tilt your head" ... what will we do with Jesus? Will we see His beauty? Will we pick Him up, and hold Him to our cheek? He is precious. Or will we toss Him back into the waves?
Nicely penned!
Hugs,
Kimbob

This is a beautiful poem. I didn't realize amethyst could be cast from the sea by a wave. I like the way you have personified this precious glass so that it sounds like love poem as it is caressed and treasured.

Amethyst colored sea glass...
A "reverse" gem, some call it...
Real gems are created in nature, sea glass is literally shattered glass of old bottles and such A-Rod see into the sea by we untidy humans...
The ocean abrades, polishes, tumbles it smooth...
It's magical to find washed up on the shore!
I have decanter a full of sea glass I've collected over decades!
Thanks!

Wow! Thanks for the information. I'll bet that would be pretty. The sea is even better than a rock tumbler for polishing glass.

This is so lovely, Karenina. The flow is mesmerizing, and carries us all away to the beaches we have walked and the sand encrusted treasures we have carried away. So well done.

Thanks Melissa! What's not to love about the shore, right? As for sea glass, I've collected it for years, and it seemed a fitting metaphor...

Your vivid imagery shines throughout this lovely piece. I am always drawn to the color of amethyst as it was my mothers favorite and she would have loved to see as amethyst sea glass. There is a quiet power when we find these treasures on the shore.
Well done.
Blessings

Ah, Janet. I so agree! I'm never less stressed than when walking the shore looking for bits of sea glass. I am several decanters of the many colors all over my house! Amethyst is by far the rarest in New England... Thus, I treasure it the most! Thanks for sharing...and for the six stars! Have a blessed weekend...
