I think the first world "Alarm" jumps at the reader. It grabs their attention and pulls them in. then it shows them there is destruction and asks in a kind of plea for something better.

Lower your expectations. It is natural for anyone to feel frustrated and disappointed when something doesn't turn out...Don't lose yourself. Go to school, get a job, find the love of your life, and strive for greatness till your last day. Practice tolerance.

Thanks for reviewing. I don't quite see the compatibility of 'lower your expectations' with 'strive for greatness', but you do offer a recipe for how to conduct one's life in troubled times.

If we don't expect much in return than we are lower our expectations.
Internet stated: Lower expectations are "the key to happiness", so long as the happiness you're after is lower happiness. Yes, we are happier, in the sense that we are less frustrated, when we expect less. Imagine defining "frustration" as "the feeling that comes to you when you get less good than you expected".

The restrictions for the writer provided in this contest are difficult, but the author kept to the rule, 2-4-2, wonderfully. I find it interesting that a Wordsworth sonnet served as the inspiration. I hope the writer can find the calm he or she is looking for. It is possible. Bravo to the writer for keeping to the rules and making a strong point.

We humans have such a self-destructive streak! ... when even trains trying to take people to safety are being bombed.
