Wow, is this autobiographical? I don't know many parents in our generation taking time to play with their little ones. That's wonderful to have that time of imaginative play with grown-ups. So many teachable moments - but I didn't have that time until after I had grand kids.
Great entry for the picture challenge!

Yes, it is autobiographical. Mother and I would cut out men and women from Sears catalogue and have paper dolls. Thanks, Helen.

How fun! And you made time to play with your sons! That's such a beautiful legacy!

And they did with theirs. Mother set such a good example.

Hi Yvonne,
Very nice poem, and I also liked the artwork. Which came first?
Attics are where the memories pop... trunks of valuables. Tickle trunks!
Your poem and picture made me think of the 1985 movie, "One Magic Christmas", starring Mary Steenburgen (as Ginny Grainger, a woman who needed to learn the true meaning of Christmas)and Harry Dean Stanton (as the angel, Gideon, whose job it was to help her see). In one scene, Ginny's two kids were up in the attic of the grandfather's home. It was much like your picture There even was a rocking horse.
My favorite verse,
"On rainy days, we'd snuggle up
and listen as the raindrops tapped
the roof with drowsy-making drone,
I will confess sometimes we napped."

Nicely penned! Terrific entry for the "Remember When" event in "Picture This".
Hugs,
Kimbob

That was a really lovely poem, and the rhyme was spot on. I wish we'd had an attic like that one, where we could go and play. The ordinary houses never had them, just a small space to put your Christmas decorations and cases in. There was no room to play, or stand up.
I love this poem where you played in the attic with your mother, and later, your father, too. It's such a warm family poem, and I can imagine you doing this. Well done, my friend. Love and hugs. Sandra xx

This was amazing, damommy. I loved the picture because it showed the love of the adventure. Your words were delightful in that they captured the past time and I can only imagine Daddy joining in the fun. Very well done, greatly enjoyed.

Sounds like fun times, dressing up in those old clothes. I think even today's youngsters would have fun doing that. It's just perfect when the parents take time to join in. This was a wonderful memory, and great for the Remember When event. The images and the excellent rhyme make this a delight. judi

Amazing! Your poetry is metered and rhymes with the finesse always evident in your work. More than that, you relate a time of innocence when no electronic devices or "virtual" interaction got in the way of real heart-to-heart interaction. I daresay no one will be holding my hand as I breathe my final breath saying, "Remember that time we sat not speaking, playing Candy Crush?"

Sigh...................

Things were more fun before all the technical stuff came around. Wonderful times! Thanks for a great review.

I was telling Emilyn about "paper dolls" the other day. She was hysterical! Said "We don't even use PAPER for school anymore!"--

    Kind of sad...

That sounds like an amazing childhood! I would have loved to have a box of old dress-up clothes to play with. Instead, we put on my dad's hunting suit and got in trouble because we put a hole in the knee. Lol

Very nice rhyme and rhythm. Overall, great poem. Hugs.

Hello damommy, Yvonne, your poem is so sweet and heartfelt. I could feel the joy and love within. I especially liked:

On rainy days, we'd snuggle up
and listen as the raindrops tapped
the roof with drowsy-making drone,
I will confess sometimes we napped.

(Vivid imagery. I can see it!)

Silky rhyming. Well chosen artwork. A poem that reflects what is important in life - family. Well done. This poem made me smile.
Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer ~ Margaret
