Good for you, Wendy! As you say, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. Perhaps that was your first step toward learning to stand up for yourself. Maybe your brother did you a favour. Well written. Good luck in the contest.

I really enjoyed this story. I gave it 5 stars in spite of some inconsistencies in the beginning because your really came into your own with the dialogue between you and your brother on the way to school. Good work on the story overall.

Regarding the problems at the beginning;
1. In the third paragraph, I feel that it would help to center the reader by using the names again, "(We sisters)We felt that he (Graham) was privileged, as he always had his own bedroom. "
2. "The girls" does not function well in first person with "our rooms" ..... perhaps "My sisters and I" would work better as it clearly remains first person.
Thanks for a great story.

Great story, Wendy. You certainly jumped out of your comfort zone when you came through with your threat. I am sure you two made up quickly and I am glad that it cured him of calling you that name. Thanks so much for sharing.

Well written, Wendy. Excellent combination of narrative and dialogue in your appealing story of family life. Teasing gets old really fast. You stood up for yourself although you knew of course your brother couldn't slug you back. That's why he cried, with mortification. My grandson has two younger sisters and he often has to take out his frustrations on a punching bag his dad wisely bought him. I was amused when I lived in South America because people would call each other quite happily what's considered rude " Flaquita" (Skinny); "Gordita" (Fatty) and the list goes on ...
Good luck in the contest

Stay safe and blessed

Julia

You made me laugh! Thanks! Your imagery was so perfect that I could see you -as Skendy- punching your older brother Did you get treated with greater respect after that? Good job and good luck in the contest.

    Yes! I did earn respect. The one and only time I have ever punched anyone! Lol. Thanks so much for your great review, and good wishes. All greatly appreciated.

This is a great story, but I must admit the nickname IS funny. I would have hated it also. Kids are cruel as they make fun of one another. I love the realistic dialogue between you and your brother before you actually punched him. I was surprised he cried. I wish you the best in the contest.

    Thanks so much. You are right - the nickname could have been much worse!! Lol. I might have been thin, but I must have been quite strong, and really hurt him. Lol. Thanks so much for reviewing- greatly appreciated, as always, as well as your good wishes.

That's funny. I was a biter. I think most of the baby of the families bite. Siblings can be mean but they can also surprise us, just like you did to your brother. We all have to know when to stand up for ourselves.

Of course a boy would virtually be disgraced if he'd ever mention that a younger girl "beat him up" he would never have lived it down with the other boys, and would be fuel fo the fire of teasing. Well done you, name calling is a form of bullying anyway, beautifully written. Wendy, blessings Roy

Well told. Probably one of your first uncomfortable situations. I think you handled it quite nicely. I'll bet you get along great now. You should do well in the contest.
