This is a sad poem of love and loss. The one rose shows that love still is there for this man who left. The rain can be cleansing.
Of course it counts.
Keep writing and stay heatlhy
Good luck in the contest.

That's a great story told in just your 5-7-5 poem! And you rhymed all three lines, too. In broken relationships, meeting again can cause pain! Congratulations on your third place win!!

Thank you, Helene. It was a surprise since I'd forgotten that I'd recently entered a contest. lol Yep, I'm THAT on top of stuff right now.
My story ended better than many - we've been re-married for 19 years now, going on 20. Wow... Does that make us sound like a couple of old folks or what! :)
Blessings and many thanks. Have a blessed and very special Easter day,

Just a quick comment, I read all of these and honestly thought you should have won. It was creative and unique. I had a poem in this contest, so I found the results interesting.

I appreciate you taking the time to read and comment. I know time is valuable and, these days, it seems to slip away more quickly than I care for!
Blessings on this very special weekend,

I think this most certainly deserved a win. Such emotion conveyed in so little words. Your comment also carries a great deal of personality. Congratulations!

I love the picture you've chosen to go with your 5-7-5 poem , it's perfect for the subject. Frozen in the rain, frozen in pain. Good luck in the contest Deb,

LOL, Deb... whether the poem is meant to be sad or painful you always managed to make me laugh. I love the format and the picture is perfect... I also like the words hanging off to the side, very nice. I think you have it in the bag. And no, I don't there's another word that rhymes with WALMART. LOL.

Do you think the author's notes detract from the poem? I wondered about that. But that memory was, at one point, so painful that I almost had to lighten it, even if it was just for me. But I don't want to take away from the poem, either...
How are you doing? Hope you're all well in this crazy season. We were within miles of the fires... Or, rather, they were within miles of us. But you were in the path of that horrible storm system. What a month!
Blessings and thank you for the high rating. Always appreciated.

No, I don't think so, Deb. You were your authentic self. And yes, lightening up some of our past stuff I guess helps us more then anyone else. ;) I'm doing okay... the storm didn't really hit us; just rained pretty hard but me and my family are okay. ARE YOU OKAY? FIRE? That's way worse! I hope you're doing a lot better now... YES. WHAT A MONTH. WHAT A YEAR. (And it's only beginning lol.)

I KNOW, right? Crazy. But if we survived 2020, we can survive anything. I hope. lol
My son and his family bought their first house and moved into it 2 weeks ago today. I went over to see how empty most of the big rooms are, agree that they need to buy more furniture, etc. and when we left their house, we stopped for a tea. That turned the truck back toward their house, although we were about 1/2 mile away. Josh frieaked out and called his wife. I was like, "What/ What?" and listened in horror as he told her to get go bags read immediately. When she asked why, he told her to step outside and look toward Blanket (a little hamlet nearby). She cursed and ran back inside. Evidently the smoke from a fire in Blanket had covered that part of the sky. The fire got within 4 miles of them before the wind shifted. That means it was about 14 miles from us, so we were completely safe (??) but a lot of farmers and ranchers lost livestock and buildings. The town of Carbon is completely off the map. there were 5 fires in our general area and they collectively burned thousands of acres. But very few lives lost - one firefighter who lost her life saving others and one older man who died in a traffic accident during the evacuation of Rising Star, another tiny town in our area. But except for those two, no human life lost. It was the strangest few days...
Glad all are okay in your neck of the woods, girl!
    Blessings and let's talk soon!

Man Deb! You always preach a word... LOL. I'm glad your son and his family are safe and that you're safe TOO! My condolences go to the families of that old man and woman. But yeah you're right... if we survived 2020... If God was for us then, He's for us now. ;) ;)

And yeah... let's talk soon! (Once I finish with this virtual fundraiser I have tomorrow.) If you're interested in attending check out this page: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/games-at-the-park-tickets-295598461957

I MISSED IT! I was babysitting for aforementioned son and daughter-in-law so they could go goof off and didn't sign in to their internet. Too busy with the kids and dogs to do much more than that!
    Did it go well?
reply by AJ McCall on 04-Apr-2022
LOL. It's fine! Family comes first...I figured you were busy... ;) It went pretty well one girl won two Amazon gift cards worth $15. And I'm actually having an in-person event next Sunday if you're interested...

Alright so here's a link to my event page on Eventbrite. You can either pay the general fee for the ticket that will go towards donations OR you can just make a donation and still get a ticket. And you put whatever amount it is. I'll be hosting family activities most likely in a gymnasium of some sort since it will be raining on the 10th... (And I'm calling a community center now to see if they'll let me use their gym for free.)

So tell me what the fundraising is for ... for book promo? Church? I'm definitely interested in finding out more. :)
I'm prom dress shopping on either the 10 or 11, but willsee you if I can! (NO! Not for me - for my granddaughter, silly! lol)
reply by AJ McCall on 06-Apr-2022
HAHA! Deb! I know it's not for YOU. (I actually went and got a free prom dress at a program over here.) BUT ANYWAY, the fundraiser is for a non-profit called Beyond Type 1, founded by Nick Jonas to help diabetics (like me) to have a platform to share and receive resources on like nutrition, daily activities, and even scholarships... so I'm actually doing a presentation on it today on Zoom at 1. So yeah... It'd be really cool if you'd came. ;)

Your picture and image pair perfectly, Deb. However even with no picture, your words paint their won.
Great job with the syllable count per line.
Best wishes in the contest.

OH, the hurt. The poem was swift and sharp like a knife being driven into my heart. The way the last line trails off into the distance shows that stillness of pain. Very well done.

I am sorry for the pain you had to suffer though.

Thank you, Mia, both for the comment on the poem and your kindness. It was brutal - I'm not sure I'd have made it through it all without my kids and some incredible friends who literally badgered me into continuing with the business of life. God put everyone into my life that I needed at that moment and then, years later, healed the pain in both of our hearts, his and mine. But that's a whole 'nother story. :)
    Blessings and thank you again,
    Deb

A great 5-7-5 poem for the contest! I liked your humorous notes also. The picture really fits the heart of your words, and your syllable count is right on. Best wishes in the contest. Carol

Hello Debora,
I loved the poem and the picture, but I also loved the explanation underneath. They seem to be contrary to each other though. I was feeling bad for you, but you appear to be OK. In any event, well done.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

    Hi, Tom!
I was a bit worried that the notes and poem might feel too opposite from each other. Did the notes ditract from the poem?
This happened to me decades ago so, while it really was heart-breaking at the time (he was with his new woman buying lingerie, of all things), I can look back and know I dealt with it and became a stronger person through those moments.
thank you so much for reading and the time you took to comment. :)
    Blessings,
    Deb

    Hi Debora,
I don't know that the notes detracted from the poem, they were just somewhat contrary to what the poem was about. I found your notes quite funny. Overall, it was enjoyable to read both the poem and the notes.
