You have done an exceptional job of capturing the meaning of words like "real" and "family"! Lines like "Let's hope for the ideal, but accept the real"
and "outlaws and inlaws" are especially moving; if we insist on the ideal, we won't have a "family"--expecting OTHERS to be something we ourselves are not!

Thank you very much Janice. Exactly right. Not everyone has a traditional family unit or a happy family, and I wanted to acknowledge that. It?s all part of being a family.

Hello fellow poet a good day to you, I hope this finds you well. I liked your family writing prompt entry, you executed it well. You did a good job of describing all types of families, not just the one related by blood. Sometimes those not related to you can treat you more like family than your actual family. Yes family can be a mix of different personalities and varied nature and some are close and some are distant. I was close to my sister as we were growing up and when she moved to Australia I wrote to her but she didn't often respond and we grew apart. I enjoyed the honesty in this write, love Dolly x

"How far extended can it be?
As far as it needs..."
How true they are!
Rounding off with these lines:
"For me, the family consists of
Those closest to the heart."
