What a fine free verse, both imaginatively presented and creatively written with great thought and care. You are right in that there is a difference between "knowledge" on paper, and the wisdom of lived years of experience. I like your weaving of the songs of balladeers, those who told it like it was, into your verse, and we do need that same insight and honesty today.

This a fantastic free verse. Well written and descriptive. It's full of love, adoration and emotional energy. You have created a pace which dances smoothly down the page. I appreciate you telling it like it is.

Some memorable songs that bring back the good times and never fail to tingle our senses and soothe our soul. You chose some magical music here. Why does sleep allude us when we age? A fine write taking me down memory lane, love Dolly x

What an excellent commentary piece here, JLR. I admire the narrative you've put together in this free verse work, all the while drifting through song titles and references that very much speak to the stream of consciousness one may have while restless. I particularly like your mention of the difference between education and experience: "Instead, we have talking heads that have a master's degree . . . but never have stepped into the ghetto, rode the subway, been homeless without soles on shoes . . ." I feel quite fortunate to have had both (education and experience), but I am forever toting the importance of the latter, for it is an education all on its own. What is it that Wilde was always saying? "Experience is the hardest kind of teacher..." Great job here - thoughtful and thorough. Thank you for sharing.

    E. Denison, I always have felt that my degree got me a ticket into the main stage of life to learn from a vast pool of experiences both good and not so good.

I enjoyed your free verse. Night time musings of a time when soft power was perhaps more significant than it has ever been. But that's just a perception. The world continues to change and music has never and will never lose its appeal.

Nicely done.

Stay safe and blessed, Julia

Julia, thank you, yes just as poets, and artists create a roadmap of the flavor of the times they are living in "soft power" is always in the forefront of the changes we experience both good and bad.

My two favourite songs ever by Bob Dylan, are "God on our side," and "Masters of war" displays and lays the cause of war firmly at the feet of those old, faceless men behind desks. Excellent choice of theme Jim, I think your choice of songs and artists and written work are outstanding, well done, blessings Roy

This is very well-written with a great choice of words to explain the state of our society. Politicians have never cared about the plight of the common man. This is why we need term limits. Great job!

This stanza speaks volumes to me because I believe the elite in charge have nothing in common with a normal hard-working American. They are pushing nonsense. Thank you for sharing.

Instead, we have talking heads that have a master's degree
in communication but never have stepped into the ghetto,
rode the subway, been homeless without soles on shoes
and worn rags with holes nor foraged a meal
from a dumpster!
