On Being Disqualified
Why is truth less desirable than fiction?4 total reviews

Legalism indeed. Most stories are based on real life experiences and just changing a name makes it "fiction" . It's ironic that being honest caused disqualification. Why don't they just call it Flash Story? Best wishes for a win!

I think Flash Story is a much better solution ... that would also solve having flash stories about God not being classified as fiction, which is frankly annoying.
-
Yes, it would solve many frustrating issues. As you say, most fiction stories are simply adapted from factual experiences.

There are times when the committee plays the power card. Save for flagrant violations I don't think they are needed as the writers who enter and read all entries will know who did and didn't and choose appropriately.

Yes, in principle I agree, but there are many voters who are unaware of the actual rules which sometimes allows blatantly non-conforming entries to win.
I was grumping about the techicality of fact/fiction.
-
But if they do not meet the requirements don?t you think those that have wouldNOT vote for the violator? That is how I see it. Idk
-
Of course entries that don't meet requirements should not get votes. Most entrants are aware of the rules, but often voters are not.

Sometimes we do put our foot in our mouth. However, the person was being honest. The truth hurts. Anyway, this was a great awareness. The writer should have thought about what they were posting. And usually this is the way people get busted. They tell off on themself. Thank you for the great post.

I don't think honesty should be punished. All stories reflect real life, so who is to say what is fact or fiction?
-
True, the sad thing is that if we tell the truth, we get penalised.
-
It's a power play where truth is the loser.

Well, I've seen listed non-fiction stories win site sponsored Fiction stories. I've seen basically a G-rated children's story about friendship, win an adult site sponsored contest, first place. I've cases like you've mention win one day and get disqualified the next.
There is no consistency in rules, to the committees or the members.

You've noticed what I've noticed. Frankly, the inconsistencies are perplexing (to put it mildly).
