What if we kept death distracted for awhile?

This is such a wonderful response to this prompt!! I'm really sorry I didn't see it sooner. I have been so distracted by things at home, I don't make it to FanStory sometimes days on end, other than a few minutes here and there. Anyway... this poem is SO well done, I'm actually surprised it didn't have more votes. Are people actually reading the entries? I have nothing to offer except encouragement. Please write more poetry. You're very good at it. This was a perfect poem for this contest. MM

Thanks so much Adonna for the wonderful review and encouraging comments. I got a lot of good feedback for the poem, but there were other good poems submitted for the contest. There wasn't a real well defined winner for that particular contest as both the first and second places each had three people tied. Oh well, nature of the beast I guess. Sometimes the words just fall into place, but nothing at all like what you write. You've got a gift that is exceptional.
    Have a blessed day gal.

This is a fun macabre poem about dodging death and keeping it entertained whilst you squeeze out a bit more life before the final corner, I doubt you will see death coming, none of us do, but I enjoyed your fun romp here Tom, great rhymes too, love Dolly x

Thanks so much Dolly for the fine review. While we may not know when death is going to arrive, the odds are more in favor of a visit at this age than before. Hope you're enjoying your vacation.
    Have a blessed day.

Your poem reads well, but your notes stand above everything
else. Your lines are smooth with good rhymes. The story flows
with great imagery. Yes, no one of us knows when death will
come for real.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Hello Jan, I appreciate you taking time to read and review my poem. I was intrigued by the subject matter and thought, what is more serious than death? Lets hope that we have a while to go before death claims us.
    Have a blessed evening gal.

Distracting Death is a good idea! No, we never seem to be ready. Many times, even the Believers are nervous. I'm glad you decided to write this poem. It was quite good.

Thanks for your kind words Jessi. You're right, being a believer doesn't alleviate the anxiety of thinking of our demise.
    Have a blessed evening.

I enjoyed your poem - and the narrator's attitude - very much. Being ready to leave on our own terms sounds like a good death; until then, get out and enjoy living.

"Sometimes we had some similar views" sounded rather awkward with the extra syllables not fitting the rest of the poem's rhythm.
Perhaps you could use: "with our similar views".

Hi LisaMay, thanks for taking the time to review and comment on my poem. You're quite right, it does sound awkward, and I realized it at the time, but wasn't sure how to deal with it. I'll change it.
    Have a blessed evening.

Like your poem. When Jesus died for our sins, He gave us a life that we can look forward, too. I can remember watching a movie where angels appeared at death's door. Do you remember "Touched by An Angel?" Is death the culprit in your poem, being you don't want to go home? We are fortunate we do not know when the good Lord will bring us home.

Thanks for reviewing and commenting on this poem. Of course it's fiction, and while I'm in no rush to pass on from this life, I don't spend too much time worrying about it either. Yes I remember the series, although I didn't watch it regularly. Yes, death is the culprit that I'm speaking of here. For me it was just a fun, challenging contest. I agree, for those who are Christians, death doesn't hold the same fear.

This poem, Death Came Knocking, is a fun look at that fateful day when Death comes arrives. It would be nice to divert his attention and slip past.

True, but when I consider the way the world is going right now, perhaps death would be an alternative

Hello Tom.

This is an interesting trip you take the reader on in this poem. The concept of having death drop in on you to watch TV and eat popcorn is certainly a unique thought. Your resolution in the last stanza leaves the door open. It is an interesting observation.

Good luck in the contest.

Robert

Hi Robert- Thanks so much for reading and reviewing my poem. I liked the subject matter and decided to give it a try. There was no clear cut winner on this contest as there were three people who qualified for first place and three for second. I got second place, but that's OK. It was more about the challenge and the fun.
    Have a blessed evening.
