Like your poem. Yes, there is another variant spreading but it seemed the mandate is not as strict or careful as it once was. Several mandates were lifted. I don't want to get the co-vid either, no one does!

Rosemary, Thanks so much for your kind review & comments!
Everyone in my family has had it once, w the exception of my youngest, whose family had it twice. Although we were blessed to avoid fatalities, many other loved ones weren't as fortunate. I hope you are able to stay Covid free, as it's one thing we all have in common; that we all felt alone while we were isolated, yet we all went through it together! Thanks again & God Bless!

Thank you for your beautiful poem. The rhyming was spot-on and the rhythm musical. I lost my best friend to covid. My daughter-in-law is a traveling nurse. She nurses covid patients which helped me learn facts from fiction.

This is a great poem, Debi. This Covid pandemic has been horrible. I hope everyone is safe. This is well written and it being relatable gives it the extra it deserves. I want to thank you for sharing this.

John, thank you very much for your kind review. It seems that it's the one subject we all can agree on; that even tough we were isolated from each other, we all were in it together. Thank you again, as I appreciated your kind comments too!

Your monorhyme contest entry reads well with great use
of monorhyme (of course). The image is supportive
pairing too. Your words are well chosen and effective.
I agree with all you wrote.
May I suggest ~
to get rid of the large blank space at the end, go to your
edit page and use advanced editor
scroll to last line
while there slowly delete--you will see the space going away
and can stop whenever you wish SAVE your work

Those evil eddy characters can be deleted by using advanced
editor, highlighting them then hit delete SAVE
Best wishes.
Reespectfully, Jan

You are a sweetheart Jan, as I truly appreciate your bringing it to my attention about so much extra space at the end of my poem, and those nasty little marks that seem to haunt me every time I go between advanced and.basic editor. Also thank you for your kind review and comments regarding my poem. I know that it's one subject that we can all agree on.
Although we may have all felt isolated, we all went through it together.
Thanks again Jan! May you & yours all stay safe!

Well one thing for sure, you found a graphic to illustrate the determination of this virus.

I think we are just at the beginning though, and certain things are going to have to change permanently because it is impossible for our health care systems to manage these massive increases.

I am with you on celebrating the tireless and heartbreaking work of the health care workers.

Many thanks for sharing. :))

Gloria, Thanks so much for your very kind review and comments. I am afraid you might be correct about Covid not being over, as my husband has said the same thing all along. It was a very rough 2 years without seeing anyone in person, except my doctors and nurses. I am thankful for this time for things being a little more back to normal, but can only pray that it continues.
    Thank you again Gloria!!

Hello Debi, a timely poem. Your poem reads and flows well and quickly pulls the reader into it until the very end. Of special note:

Stayed at home, while being lonely
As family functions weren't to be

(I know that feeling. I had cancer and had to stay away from about everyone. With masks on, my grandchildren would come over, and we sat outside--even in the cold. We took walks around the neighborhood.
We exchanged Xmas gifts on my front porch. I guess it could have been worse. At least I had someone to visit me. Some people have no-one.)

Let's hope that we can some day say good-bye to Covid.

Good monorhyme. Well-chosen photo. As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck. LateBloomer

Thank you so very much for your kind review. You just described my two years, as well. I am so sorry for your cancer, and pray you are doing better now. I have Lupus and stage 4 kidney disease, plus other organs being attacked, but my first poem on FS was about being held hostage from Covid, as my husband was so overprotective of me that he wouldn't let anyone in the house. However we got creative with the family for Thanksgiving we used Zoom from my daughters house and ours, so we could see all our family. Then at Christmas, did a bonfire outside, (which was still freezing in MN) So very much like you, we got creative. Yes, I too, consider myself blessed to have a loving family and more thankful with everyday!
With every disappointment and setback in life, we get back up, dust ourselves off and thank our Dear Lord, that tomorrow's another day.
My dad used to say that if we didn't have anything bad happen to us, we'd never appreciate the good ones. OMGosh, I'm so sorry for getting carried away, but and I had such similar ways to still seeing our family.
Once again, thank you for your lovely comments and I truly do pray that you are beating the cancer. God Bless!

Lol, It's nice to know someone who won't wonder what language I'm speaking, if I mention GFR & Creatinine numbers.😊

Prayers are responsible for saving my life twice, when the doctors said no hope.
Could you please give me your first name, as you are now on my prayer list!
Please let me know how those scans do in June.

My name is Margaret. Thank you.
We all need all the prayers that we
    can get.

"Covid Free" is a poem about the trials a family has faced during the covid pandemic. It is a somber poem, and I think the tone would have been more successfully achieved if each pair of lines had been made into one line, eg., "I hope we never have to see another virus so ugly." This puts the rhyming pair within one line instead of at the ends of each of two lines, but I think the improvement in tone is further helped by slightly de-emphasizing the rhymes. In the last stanza of the poem, I would replace "A humbled heart" by 'With a humbled heart.' I like 'ardent pleas' better than "desperate plea." I would start the last line of the poem with 'To....' Of course, if you combined paired lines, this would be in the second half of the sentence.

I am especially thankful, my niece who is a nurse who served on the front line and emerged to continue raising her young daughter. She is an amazing young woman, whom I could not be more proud of, even if I tried.

I share your pain and fears. I have been laying low the last two years here in Korea not going out much, one trip to the US my home in the last two years but weekly zoom sessions with friends kept me sane.
