Well, April is surely for me! I love her spunk and the fact that she doesn't "need" a man. When my father died, men came out of the woodwork pestering my mom, who would tell me "they're just looking for someone to take care of them." And your description of Blackie and cat behavior is spot-on. And he's looking for a replacement before his wife dies? What an ass, lol!
Well written and thoroughly engaging. The only oops I found was the sentence that starts - My wife is dying . . . Quotation marks before "My".

This was an interesting story. And I do not blame you for not wanting a potential relationship. And as you said, he should have not asked those questions while his dear wife was alive. I hope she lives well over one hundred. Thank you for posting this great story. Have a great day.

That was incredible! That he asked you while his wife was still alive! Lol, men are so worried about being on their own. That this is a true story, makes it even funnier. I'm glad his wife recovered and has him on a short leash now. I enjoyed this little story. Well done and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx

Thank you. Yeah, this actually happened. I could have been nasty but he has done a lot for me in the past. I like his wife too and hope she lives forever. Lol

I laughed at your experience with Riccardo, but I was also indignant for you being categorized as a 'prospect'. I liked how you handled the situation by mentioning all your cats. I guess his persistence was flattering, but he sabotaged his relationship with you with such a conversation.

Thank you. Yeah, he lost a lot of points with me. I always thought him to be a nice devoted husband and now he acts like he can't wait until she is gone.

Disloyalty is a very unappealing character flaw.

You may feel you are not for everyone, but Riccardo is definitely not for everyone, especially looking for a wife while his current wife is alive, and foolish enough to talk about prospects. Your story is well written and fits the criteria for the prompt. Best wishes in the contest.

Thank you for reading and commenting. Yep, I thought he was a better person than that. Live and learn.

It's good to hear his wife survived. It's sad he doesn't think he can live alone at his age. It is rather an insult to have yourself considered a "prospect" as if you're in try-outs for a part in a play. Very well-written with a sense of humor that is not edgy or irritable. You did leave a period out at end of paragraph 5.

'I'm looking at prospects' definitely doesn't rate as the best pickup line of the century! LOL This anecdote is purrfect for the contest. I trust you will continue to enjoy the company of your feline companions - much less trouble than the average male!

Thank you. I agree. I wouldn't have been so nice if he and his wife hadn't done so many flavors for me.

What a clever story. I think, though, I would even consider the inadvisability of extending a longer friendship with the guy. He seemed a tad creepy. I take that back. With his wife dying of cancer, please remove the "a tad" from the previous sentence.

What would I have to do to get you to consider marrying me?", Riccardo asked. [No further punctuation needed after the closed quote. The question mark was enough.]

"Yeah, I guess I could learn to live with it?" [I wonder why you use a question mark to end the sentence.
]

I'm beginning to enjoy the conversation. [I love this little intervening aside for the reader, sandwiched between her two pieces of dialogue.]

I love the way you ended your little story in the same vein as you started it. It gives the story a delightful circularity ... or rather, it closes the circle, nicely.

Thank you for reading and the constructive advice. I will edit and fix it. I wrote this in a hurry and never checked it afterward. My bad. You're right, the guy is a bit weird. I thought less of him for looking for his next woman while his wife was fighting cancer.

LOL, I too am seventy-six. I was Cat Daddy (you can read my story on being Cat Daddy). But when my wife passed away almost four years ago, I thought no more cats. I had been concerned about them outliving me. Your prospect's story is pretty funny and hits the nail on the head for the contest. Good luck. Terry

Thank you. Yeah, I remember the cat story. I read it just the other day. You're lucky, I still have six cats. I do have family that will take care of them if they outlive me.

I love the reason why you are not for everyone! If you are for every cat, that's good enough! ð???ð??? Lovely story and I am happy to read that his wife is doing better
