Tempeste,

Congratulations on your winning entry.

You captured beautifully the Dian Fossey relationship with her 'friends' in the African highlands.

Your last line is a perfect ending to your quatrain verse.

Mark

    Ciao Marco!

Thank you the extra shiny star , glad you enjoyed my theme of my entry.

I haven?t yet seen the film Gorillas in the Mist which is based on her life. I must put it on the wish list.

    Ciao!

Excellent kouta. Thank you for the background on a wonderful and passionate woman. I remember the movie well. It touched a deep current of compassion.

Dian and Digit s death were horrific.. knowing the killers were not brought to justice, enrages me.

The plight of these magnificent creatures became global but at a high price.

I have no pity for poachers .. they should be caught and do prison time .. many years ..

these creatures are part of our children's heritage

Wildlife should thrive free and not cooped up in a zoo.

Thank you for the six star review and I believe your vote too!

    Keep safe!

Earth Day is indeed an appropriate time to honour those who have made sacrifices to protect animals and bring conservation to the fore. Your entry is very moving; the videos of Digit's and Dian's deaths made me so sad and angry.

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

The death of Digit breaks my heart too.

Dian obviously was devastated and felt guilty .. Digit was not afraid of humans .. when they attacked him, he initially must have been in shock.

His head and hands sold as trophies .. how wicked. Such a beautiful creature ..

Dian s death was as violent too and that the perp was never found enrages me.

I like to believe that she is happy with her beloved gorillas now.

    Keep safe!

It has to be a very hard job to pay tribute to such a life as Dian's in just four lines at the same time as rendering such a tribute poetic. This little Kouta poem comes about as close to that goal as it is possible to get.

Thank you for the positive review ...I was anxious to do a poem on her now being Earth Day ...

there is much to say though , I might in the future write a long poem where I can provide more about her and her crusade.

The poem summed up Dian Fossey's work. To that end it met the expected criteria. However, the use of " 'n" was jarring, as was "lush verdant lands". This sort of made it sound like the gentle beasts were found in a part of England.
I just can't help but think that the poem should have been more vibrant in order to match the often frustrating and terrifying, but ultimately amazing work that she did.

Actually, the rainforests of Rwanda, where the Gorillas live, are lush and verdant...the photo I provided shows the abundant greenery.
    See also video below here.

I will edit the 'n ..I thought it made the read smoother but I am not a poet.
