I spent many years as a case manager for homeless families with children, so I know first hand of what you write.
I know the things that most people don't. I agree that this problem is one that continues to need our love and inspiration.
This is a great poem to illustrate the problem.

Beck, my gosh! Thank you for your service to this disadvantaged! This is not an easy fix, but this is America and we must do better!

Since I live in Florida, we have a large homeless population here because of the weather. My community does a lot to help these people, and I include the police in this. I've talked to a few - some who don't seem to comprehend what you're saying and others who are quite intelligent. They ARE US under less fortunate (and sometimes preferred) circumstances. But mostly, as you say, they are invisible.

Since I live in Florida, we have a large homeless population here because of the weather. My community does a lot to help these people, and I include the police in this. I've talked to a few - some who don't seem to comprehend what you're saying and others who are quite intelligent. They ARE US under less fortunate (and sometimes preferred) circumstances. But mostly, as you say, they are invisible.

Pam, thank you! Yes it is true, as in the general population there will always be takers and grabbers. However, we must not let the few change our attention that the system is terribly broken and must be addressed by State and Federal governance.

These days there are so many homeless people on the streets through no fault of their own. The lockdowns meant not enough money coming in to pay bills, rent, mortgages, food and heating, how there are not even more homeless people, I don't know. It could be one of us one day, so don't look down on them, help them. Your poem tells the story of the few who need our help not disdain. Well done. Sandra xx

Nomi my dear friend, No Sir, I want as good a track record I can muster in this lifetime, So my transition is not mired in an ugly Sea of Faces of those that I could have/should have seen and helped.

This is a good message - a reminder to see the person, instead of accusing them of bringing their situation on themselves without knowing the facts. Well done. The end was perhaps a little harsh because while some government officials might not care, I expect there are others who do.

Sarah, thank you and yes I know this is a harsh assessment - I know there are many who do see the issue but I do not hear any being a true Statesperson and holding there peers accountable.

Homelessness is a terrible thing, I feel sad for people who go through it. Many of them are mentally ill, which makes it more challenging to help them. Thanks for talking about this important subject.

Your point is very valid! There will always be a fair share of takers ... that is all they choose to be, but this makes it worse for the truly needy, and the lack of mental health aid is a humanitarian crisis.

Yes, this is a worldwide humanitarian crisis. Much more must be done with mental health worldwide.

This is interesting and topical and I agree with most of what you have written. I think you overemphasize the points with too many exclamation marks. I would use one or two at best if I were you. This is only a suggestion.
I have an affinity for the homeless and know what you speak. They have it rough and usually, they are invisible to passersby.

This is a new poetic form for me. Your message here is well presented. Thankfully, I live in an area that has very very few homeless, but you don't have to go too far to see people begging on the corner. One thing that troubles me is that we have a fair number of people who are receiving so much money from begging that they refuse to get a job.
