Oh, dear, I don't think it did his body any good to get hooked on one of America's breakfast cereals. Back then they probably didn't even pretend they packed it with vitamins. What a charming poem. It was written well and a pleasure to read. Best regards, Lilly

What a sweet memory you have shared with us in this lovely free verse! I actually had a similar experience with fruit loops, which came out a decade later. I'm glad you decided everything was going to be all right in America. Your grandad was a very wise man...

A very interesting story in a poem. Very well described. Very well written. I have a 13 yr old son who hates chocolate. All the best to you.
With regards

Bridge, thank you! This little lad from Ireland had never had chocolate before ...a good thing he liked it - smiling back!

This is absolutely awesome. Ok so you are a few years ahead of me, I still remember breakfast cereal of any kind better than oatmeal. What a great job of writing, as I not only enjoyed the nostalgia, but to new immigrants, grandpa knew what a treat this would be for a young lad in America!

I really enjoyed reading this. I've never had to move to a new country, but there must have been a lot to adjust to, and even small things are big to a child. If this is about your life, you could categorise it as Biographical rather than General.

This work has reached the exceptional level

This is an excellent recount of what it's like to experience something in a foreign country for the first time. You clearly capture the child's feelings and emotions whilst also allowing the reader to bring their thoughts and experiences to the poem. Thanks for sharing such a well-written piece.

An interesting story in free verse poetry detailing the child's transition from a hearty home cooked breakfast to a typical American one as he settled into a new and very different way of life. Best wishes for your fine entry for the contest.

This poem meets the requirements for the contest. The kid got lucky for what he wanted to eat was cocoa puffs with chocolate milk. Excellent work! Thank you for sharing! Good luck!
