This was a brilliant one. "City sidewalks were hot on bare feet" - that's a great line because most people will think of walking somewhere hot without shoes as they read. I also liked how you described the bubble-blowing: "Watching them soar and burst in the air". You've obviously had the experience and are now relaying it to your readers.

These are such sweet memories you have shared. It sounds like these block parties were such a good time! We have a little side walk days here in my town every summer. It's not the same but it sure is fun.

Are they a thing of the past? Likely. Having people gather now usually causes concern for trouble, not from those who live there but from gangsters and thugs from another part of town.

Today, it would be a great way to get the community or neighbors together to share food, laughter and fun. As a kid, I remember square dances in the streets downtown every summer. I was so young, I could only watch. Those men and women dressed in country and western attire. The women wore (can can slips) underneath their dresses, which would sway around as they danced with their partner in the street. Eating watermelon. It was a treat. The last one I was seven. With COVID-19, no one can do this anymore.
