Bill,
This was a mistake for the father. He should have let the daughter see that the fish was dead and decide what to do with it. The cat was smarter than the dad.
Congrats on placing third in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy

"The cat chose discretion" said no one ever when it comes down to food, lol! What a clever tail you've told here. Congratulations on your third place showing in this contest entry.

Thank you, Pam, for the great review. I imagine a cat would avoid predicted drama and return later, if the fish were still available.

Bill,

I imagine it took a wee bit of time for Frank's stock to regain it's value. He may have had to sell off a few shares and consider bankruptcy for a while even. Goofy male CEOs. That's what happens sometimes when you start letting them make too many decisions in the company -- goes straight to their heads. --sigh--

Loved it!

Hi Bill,
Fabulous entry for the Dribble Flash Fiction! Sure, cats love fish. But what about a special fish? The cat knew, and he had enough sense to back off. But poor old Dad did the unthinkable. I think we all do something unthinkable at times. Your ending told the rest of the story...
"Frank's parental stock plummeted."
Once, years ago, we were at Oak Point Campground visiting our friends. We were seated at a picnic table. The kids were playing nearby. Bob and Elaine (not their real names) loved camping. I would, too. But not my wife. Anyhow, we were just talking, enjoying the day. Suddenly, we heard a strange noise. Elaine discovered where it was coming from first. She peeked under the picnic table in time to see her hubby peeing out the side of his shorts onto the sand beneath. Elaine was flabbergasted, and read Bob the riot act! My wife was embarrassed. I giggled to myself, because I worked with Bob at the brewery. He did weird things sometimes. It was poor decision, a spur-of-the-moment.
Nicely penned, Bill!
Cheers,
Kimbob

I can imagine. Frank crossed the line of acceptability and the daughter filed a complaint. Poor girl and poor fish. Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the upcoming contest,
Sal :))

Thank you, Sally. I imagine the cat may have returned to get the fish after the suspected drama.

Ha ha ha, wise cat and I think cat's prefer the thrill of the chase rather than the end result. Frank is in the dog house now, you made me smile here Bill, love Dolly x

Ooops/ Gulp. (Or more to the point, NO gulp thanks to that darn cat!)
I'm betting parental stock wasn't worth a "fin" there for a while. Perhaps a new fish? My own dad used to sneak out to the store and do a magic goldfish swap whenever "Goldie" swam over the rainbow bridge! Adorable dribble.

I had to have a laugh at this one Bill. Yes indeed, cat's have little sentimentality, but was obviously far more discrete unlike the cats we've love in our family. Beautifully written, good luck, blessings Roy

Your story made me laugh. I don't know where my sympathies lie - Frank, his daughter, the cat, or the dead fish. It was funny, any way you look at it. Thanks for sharing.

At least the cat had some sense, lol, daddy is in big trouble now. How can he prove it was dead before he threw it at the cat? He can't, lol. Oh dear. Another great short story, Bill, well done again. :)) Sandra xx

I'm going to have a rest now. I'll finish all the shorts tomorrow. I've become addicted to them. Lol.
