I was that kid who got a paddling or two every day. But of course, now days, people speak against physical abuse. For me, it wasn't abuse, it was a lesson or reminder that I probably should have gotten a lot more of, yet the ones I got were great deterrents for future mistakes. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

A very well written story. I was hooked from the beginning to the end. You have described the incident very well...I could easily visualise it. All the best to you in the contest.
With regards

Even though nobody got the strap, there was a valuable lesson learned. It sounds like your mother was a toughie. I was kind of tough on my two boys. They both turned out fine, and we have a great relationship now.

She was a very young mother of five at that stage and was probably quite overwhelmed at times, although we weren?t naughty children (I wonder why?!!) Fear of the strap taught us lessons for life.
Thanks so much for reviewing. Appreciated.

I like your story, Wendy. I am sure you all learned a lesson from this episode. Your sister was in trouble whether she told the truth or not, but I am glad you all escaped the strap.

Thanks for this story about your life. I'm so sorry you had to anticipate punishment like that. Smacking was normal when I was a kid too, but I don't think it's helpful, particularly when kids are older and talking to them about what they did wrong would have more effect. As one of my friends (who's now a mother) says, if we don't want our children to hit other people, why would we hit them?

I did enjoy reading about the ring though, and I'd be interested to know whether your sister was allowed to keep it.

I can?t remember that she ever wore it again, so I suspect she wasn?t allowed to keep it. Discipline was harsh back then, such things are not allowed now, thankfully.
Yes, parents need to model the behaviours they want to see in their children. Thank you for reviewing. Much appreciated.

This story will certainly remind the readers that lying to their mothers is wrong, and in this case, something that could be life changing.

Great story. When you wrote you ran, I thought of my mother. I only ran once, and she didn't chase me. She knew I had to come home. She beat on me for what seemed like 30 minutes for running. That cured me, big time. Have a great Saturday, and good luck in the contest.

Thank you Shirley. I think we were just running around in circles trying to distract her from hitting Robbie! Poor Mother ... a bad day!
I appreciate your review - and I'm sorry you got to feel the full punishment!

Nice way to divvy up an allowance. Just a couple of suggestions.

5th Para, 2nd sentence: remove comma between 'rules' and 'and'
8th Para, 2nd sentence: one too many spaces between 'plate,' and 'she'

Robbie, you should know you can never fool Mother Nature or Mother.

Fun little story, thanks

Thank you for reviewing. Appreciated. I fixed the extra space - thank you for picking it up. I prefer to keep the comma in the fifth paragraph - it was intentional, as I prefer a pause in the reading. Thanks for the suggestion though.

This was well written and adorable, it is strange how a simple little thing was seen as wrong in Robbies eyes, children lie because they fear getting in trouble. I tell my kids just tell the truth, its less complicated.

Yes, I always told my children they will be in less trouble if they tell the truth because there needs to be trust, and once broken, trust is difficult to repair. It worked.
In those days a strap was a common threat, in our case rarely used, fortunately. Thanks so much for reviewing - always appreciated.

Your mum sounded a little like my mum, but really only once, no twice, can I remember her losing her temper with me, and hit me mercilessly with a stick. Thank for this Wendy, I think this is a brilliant entry, well done, good luck, blessings Roy

Thanks so much Roy. I have to say the strap was a very rare event - the fear of it was usually sufficient to teach the required lesson! Wouldn?t be allowed now! Thanks for reviewing -appreciated always.
