C2,
Okay, now I'm hungry. I agree that there is comfort in being around real people who do things as opposed to the elite who are never what they seem, always pretending to be more than they are. Your inclusion of the toolbelts and badges is a very good example of declaring, "This is who and what I am," with quiet pride. Nice piece of flash. I hope that is pure maple syrup you are filling the holes with!

alphalpha ==> alfalfa (helps to have spent a lot of time on a farm) -- we used to jokingly call it alfiealfie.

I worked at the Waffle House years ago. The food was great. The place I worked at was clean. The condiment bottles were washed down. All surfaces were cleaned often. The year 1976.

As a fan of Waffle House myself, I followed your story eagerly (and hungrily). I know exactly what you mean about the clientele being "real people," and there being no expectations (except that both my waffle and bacon be crispy). This is an unusual subject for a story, but you definitely made it work, and you made it enjoyable. Your last paragraph, especially, made me smile at your subtle sense of humor. Good luck in the contest.

Except that I gained 10 pounds just thinking about it. 😀
